now that they''re here - a biography

now that they''re here is the music vehicle of songwriter/producer/
multi-instumentalist Kevin Brislin. Kevin started his music career by teaching himself to play drums at the age of 16, but developed an interest in songwriting when he received an Honorable Mention for Lyric Writing from The American Song Festival in 1978.

He studied music and audio/video production at the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg. Upon graduation, he worked as a DJ and a sound engineer in the Baltimore metropolitan region. From 1984-1988, Kevin taught (among other things) music production classes at a middle school, teaching students the steps involved in writing and producing songs.

The classes yielded three songs and two music videos created by the students that were featured on commercial radio stations.
Moving to Florida in 1988, Kevin started working on music for commercial firms. He created a three-part suite entitled "Titan" for Martin Marietta Space Launch Systems to accompany a video made to commemorate the inaugural launch of the Commercial Titan space vehicle. He also wrote and produced music for such companies as Outbound Computers and The East Coast Zoological Society.

In 1992, Kevin started his own recording company, deep kimchee. To launch the label, he released his first solo work "unplanned with explosion", a collection of twelve songs in the synth rock/pop vein. In being reviewed, the CD has been called:

"Nine Inch Nails and old Depeche Mode...crashing into the Pet Shop Boys..." - Ink Nineteen

"...12 catchy and sometimes bouncy tunes that border on Talking Heads..." -Arts Industria

"And now for something completely different...manages to surprise...succeeds on its variety alone." - Q Magazine

now that they''re here became a duo in 1996 with the addition of Fred Nowicki as acoustic and electric guitarist. The second CD from the group, "Auschwitz Bound", is set for release very soon. It has a much harder sound and is a bit more experimental.

Kevin plays keyboards, drums, percussion, recorder, and sings. His recording studio, banzai tollbooth, is located in a bird sanctuary in the semi-wilds of Florida.
