Katie O''Looney first took to the drums at age 12,then moved on listening and wound up in Saratoga Springs NY playing live with very hard edged local bands in the late 70''s with all the psychodelic influences and a good share of hard rock.
Moving to NY in 1980 she was a menber of Steppin'' Razor
an all girl''s reggae band that rehearsed with bad brains etc in cool runnin''s studio run by Ausch Byla, the keyboardist. She then hooked up with Ken Herr, David Humphrey''s and Lin Culbertson to form Details at eleven, and joined Elliott Sharp''s Carbon for several tours and lp''s and cd''s. She was an early member of No Safety with Zeena Parkins and Chris Cochrane. She played and recorded with Bite Like a Kitty an all girls rock band with quite a heavy club scene in the 80''s in NY''s east side downtown https://www.tradebit.com played with the double drumming group Better than death, later changed to Camping trip with Mark Howell, a heavy rock sound, and throughout those years made a contribution to the ever explorative improve scene in many a small venue in various trios, duos and solo engagements.
John Zorn''s cobra in the moma summer garden series, east village big band and other dance and performance events marked a busy schedule throughout the 1980''s. There were numerous tours with these groups in the USA, Europe and JapanIn 1989 she relocated in France and joined several bands,Raeo with Gat and Mark Cunnungham in Barcelona, followed by Zar a duo with Jo Thirion and slide projections touring europe, and then solo''s with the experimental film of Rose Lowder. She also toured with Tenko Ueno, and a Buto dancer, and Zeena Parkins and Takashi Kazamaki in Japan.
Most rcently she has preformed with the french group Dustbreeders a makeshift improvisation with amplified turntables. Several proposed compilations have not come to fruition yet, but are in the works. The Roundtrip cd is a very personal home recording made in the quiet of the Dordogne countryside, as something different and deep in the heart of Katie''s sound germinations of a multi-instrumentalist always known as a drummer, well worth the listen for depth and texture. She would love to find new collaborations so keep your ears open for suggestion.
