"simplicity of mankind" is the debut-album of singer/songwriter/producer axel wolph´s main popular music project named "ordinary world".
the album was performed and realized together with his life- and band-mates joh, mario and guru. it was recorded and mixed at selected studios around vienna/europe and mastered at sterling sound/nyc.

01 my ordinary world
"first there was this tune, then there was the idea of naming the band "ordinary world"...the content of the song is pretty self-explaining: "welcome to my ordinary world..." is the message...honestly spoken, when i wrote the song the "welcome" was meant for myself and not for anybody else out there...musically regarded this is propably the most typical "bandsound" (whatever that means...) tune on the record... you got the voice, the mellow electric guitar theme, the acoustic guitar pattern, the deep and warm bass, the fat and acoustic drums, the cello-section...i really love the harmonies of this song..."
02 showtime
"propably one of the oldest songs on the record...i think i wrote it in spring 1999...the basic inspiration for the song was the idea of writing the most appropriate song for starting a gig... imagine silence, then the beat and the acoustic guitar lick, the almost spoken vocals and finally the powerful and kinda explosiv chorus...i loved the idea, that´s why i finished the song...and to be honest, nowadays i´m glad that i did ;-)..."
03 beautiful...
"beautiful... was written in about two hours...in one of these so-called special moments of a songwriter´s life...everything, the idea, the harmonies, the lyrics, the melodies came like snapping with my fingers...as a whole, the song perfectly reflects how i felt at the times when i wrote it...i was in a relationship that was close to it''s break-up, so i was kinda longing for help...longing for somebody teaching me the meaning of beautiful...the content can definitely be compared to "help!" by the beatles..."

"this song is propably simplicity in it´s perfection...i think it´s only three chords, but it wonderfully communicates the longing for having a good time together with your favourite alives..."
05 mr sad
"mr sad is definitely about what i call strange days, you know...those "i don´t know who i am, how i should feel and what tha hell i´m here for - days"...in other words: i tried so hard to be a happy being, but somehow i felt better when i was sad...sometimes strange, but true..."
06 scratched initials
"scratched initials is about getting dropped by somebody you once loved...i loved the idea of telling her that she had forgotten to scratch her initials into my arm or chest or back or wherever...the idea goes very well together with the picture or wish of having the pain stored in my skin and not in my stomach or memory..."
07 wrong all the time
"wrong all the time appears to me like bitter honey if you know what i mean...it´s propably the most romantic and lovely sad tune on the record...i wrote it in a dark period of time in my life a few years ago when i was trying a lot but achieved almost nothing...a young lonesome being with a lotta dreams but almost no entry points..."
08 wasted & wounded
"wasted & wounded was my personal joker for the record...after we had decided which 12 songs out of about 50 should be on the record i presented this tune to my band-mates...they really loved it which made me very glad and motivated for the recording-sessions...this song is simply about the highs and lows of love and relationship with a pretty optimistic ending...i love this tune...it´s maybe one of the best songs in my repertoire..."

"propably the most typical popsong on the album...very simple, very catchy i think...and a simple message as well...a song about a short-term relationship a few years ago...at that time i thought she´s the one...but that´s what you always think when you´re freshly in love..."

" a tune about love and spoken words...in other words, i once have been a kinda word-addictive person, like what you say is true and there´s no doubt...pretty naiv i know...i nowadays always say that these qualities are results of my almost king-like childhood...i grew up with love, harmony, respect and honesty...i had absolutely no doubt that the world and the people out there are nice, handsome and honest...well, naiv, but as you now know, i´m absolutely innocent...now, i sometimes even play with this quality of my character...i kinda playfully take words literally to confuse my fellow beings and i tell ya, it works perfectly!..."

"i would say that this is the best lovesong on the record...catchy, powerful, melodic and the message is clear!...i wrote the song as a kinda final statement to a finished relationship..."

"this tune can be described as my personal "yesterday"...it was written in about 30 minutes...i remember the situation when i wrote it quite well: alone at home in my former apartment...playing the acoustic guitar after having bottomed-up a bottle of highly delicious californian cabernet sauvignon...thinking, reflecting, singing, writing...and finally i had this tune...i would say that this is what i call a kinda timeless piece of music..."
