The Paul Stranahan Trio is a drummer led band that is dedicated
to performing creative straight ahead jazz and fusion music with a
modern feel. The group strives for an interactive, spontaneous sound.
They perform many of their own original compositions as well their own
unique interpretations from artists such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane,
Duke Ellington, Wes Montgomery and Pat Metheny.
The group has been performing in Cleveland since 1999. Guitar and
bass are the other instruments rounding out the trio. For a change of pace,
piano or saxophone will occasionally replace the guitar. The Trio has just
released its new CD called "Climbing Somewhere" which has 11 songs
all written by Paul. In 2000 the Trio released their debut CD titled "Solar".
It featured seven jazz standards and two original songs. Paul has been
interviewed and received playing time time on several different
radio stations such as WCLV, WCPN, WRUW and WCSB.
Paul Stranahan has been playing percussion for over 15 years.
He also currently performs with the jazz-experimental band Broadview
Collective as well as the jazz-rock-fusion group Rare Blend
and can be heard on their 2000 CD release "Infinity" and their 2002
release "Evolution Theory." He graduated from the Conservatory of
Music at Capital University. He also teaches private percussion lessons.
His main drumming influences are Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Dennis
Chambers and Bill Bruford.
