LUCAS PAINE BIO

"Paine''s music is just better quality - with lots of talent, songs you can relate to, and the energy that really makes all of his performances fun."
- Amanda Dale, Anchorage Daily News

Growing up in Anchorage, Alaska, Paine has been playing music since he was five years old. Learning first piano and then trumpet, Paine was raised listening to classical music with his mother, a professional flutist, and blues and rock with his father, an avid guitarist. In seventh grade Paine received his first guitar and finally found an instrument that adhered to his creative ideas. He has been writing music since.
Paine''s sound could best be described as melodic, acoustic thought-rock. With a strong voice and intelligent, melancholy lyrics, his music is reminiscent of Neil Young, Counting Crows, and REM.
Well known around his home for his solo performances as well as his work as principle songwriter and lead guitarist of the band 7/10 Split, Paine just released his debut solo album on Park Bench Records.
In November 2001, one of his songs, "Once in a While," captured first place in the Youth Division of the Alaska Public Radio Network song of the year contest. The competition drew over 225 songwriters statewide, with judges in Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks. As a result, Paine and his band performed at the Song of the Year Concert held at the Alaska Center for Performing Arts. He is currently studying voice, piano, guitar, theory, and composition at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

"I was exceptionally pleased to meet Lucas. He offered an energetic and polished performance with a professional demeanor beyond his years both onstage and off. I''d jump at the chance to work with him anytime."
- Peggy Monaghan, Producer, Anchorage Public Radio Network Song of the Year Concert
