MP3 Geoff Pearlman - Anything at All

Former Shelby Lynne guitarist Geoff Pearlman has put together a stunning solo debut with Anything at All. Drawing on gorgeous pop melodies a la Neil Finn or David Gray and peppering them with huge guitars and sharp hooks.
-Performing Songwriter, Sept/Oct

11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Americana, POP: Beatles-pop

Details:
At age 9 Geoff Pearlman got his first guitar. He began playing in bands at around 15, and after being influenced for years by the Beatles, Neil Young, Todd Rundgren and XTC, Geoff began to write his first songs.

At 18, Geoff headed to Boston''s Berklee College of Music. Still working on his song writing skills, Geoff''s guitar playing began to branch out and after finding the right combination of players, a band called Redfish Bluefish was formed. In addition to Geoff''s songs, the band played anyone from Muddy Waters to the Pixies with a driving, raw energy.

After moving to San Francisco in 1992 Redfish Bluefish backed former 4 Non Blonde Linda Perry on a world tour doing support slots with the Who, Iggy Pop and Beck, to name a few. In 1999 Geoff began playing with Grammy winner Shelby Lynne.

In 2000, Geoff moved to Los Angeles where he has composed music for films and web sites and as a guitarist in many local acts. In 2002 he released his first solo outing, Anything at All. Named by Performing Songwriter a Top 12 DIY disc for Sept/Oct.

Recorded from August 2001 through June 2002 in studios, houses and even apartments by Geoff and engineer Bradley Pickel, the songs were then mixed by Geoff and bassist/engineer Jon Evans of Tori Amos'' band.

Anything at All features a cast of fantastic musicians such as drummer Bryan Head (Abandoned Pools, Black Lab, Shelby Lynne) bassist David Meshell (Peter Case), drummer Dan Foltz (Linda Perry, Alex De Grassi) and keyboardist Michael Bluestein (Motherbug, solo).

With 11 songs crossing a diverse pallet of styles, Anything at All takes the listener from introspective corners to universal landscapes using organic instrumentation and intimate vocals. Songs like "All You Want To", "Used to the Rain" and "Come Back" have a radio friendly, rootsy
feel suggesting the likes of Wilco or John Hiatt, while vibey rockers such as "Help Myself", "Shine" and "Chase This Cloud Away" have a more classic rock sound.
Complimenting those songs are the lush and melodic title track "Anything at All", where one might be reminded of English pop lords XTC or early Todd Rundgren, and the closing track, the haunting ballad "I''m Frightened".

The record takes an adventurous, folky turn with the subtly orchestrated "The Day" and "Never Say Goodbye Again", an acoustic song based on a bazaar, true tale of a man''s final parting with his father.
