PECULIARI...The Crying Poet
Anthony Davis also known as PECULIAR-I was born in Kingston Jamaica. Peculiar-I is indeed peculiar, his words thunder from the stage, sparing neither friend nor foe. Cutting into the hearts of those who fear such words yet soothing the souls of those who find such words comforting. He has logged countless performances in Canada the country to which he migrated to shortly after graduating high school.

At an early age Peculiar-I was faced with making one of two decisions "hustle or go to school. Peculiar-I chose to "hustle" in order to provide for himself. Survival was paramount, selling plastic bags along with his brother the youth comb the streets of the concrete jungles which made up much of Kingston. Unfortunately, at that time education was but a fleeting after thought. That he would eventually embrace as he completed his education with a College degree as a Civil Engineer at Centennial College in Toronto Canada.

His decision to enter and graduate high school proved very pivotal in the youth''s life. It was during his three years at Vere Technical High School, Jamaica, (where he majored in mechanical engineering) that he met some very influential and positive youths. During his high school years Peculiar-I encountered the works of Mutabaruka, a then young revolutionary poet who''s words and works fired his imagination. This proved to be a crucial awakening for this young man. With the spiritual grounding, the influence of the revolutionary poet, the experience of ghetto life and an education, the perfect mix had been formulated to facilitate the explosion that was forthcoming.

Peculiar-I then unleashed like an angry volcano the poetic lava that had been bubbling inside from the days of his youth. Bingi Brown, a life long friend taught Peculiar-I the virtue of high self esteem by the Afro-centric interpretation of the scripture in the bible. Patrick Davis guided his younger sibling with a tough love approach all coined to fill a void in the young man and nurtured him spiritually as a son of Ras Tafari. His dynamic stage performance is second to his icon role model Mutabaruka.

His poems can be found in his book published in 1991 titled "ILLUSIONS OF I" and also his first recorded poem titled "LONG NIGHT" which was released in June of 1997 on Jahbeng''s cd "CRY FOR THE CHILDREN". This prolific and peculiar poet offers solutions to the global issues that the world is facing today. "they Called Me Madness", his debut album is well overdue and is definitely timeless.
