Los hijos de Ismael is a duo formed by Alejandro Valdivia and Gabriel Valdivia, two brothers who emigrated from Cuba very early in their lives. They are deeply influenced by their roots and their experiences as immigrants and do include that in their music. The project Los hijos de Ismael was born in 2006 and has been taking shape constantly ever since. In 2008, with over 30 songs in their repertoire, Alejandro and Gabriel chose 12 of them to include in their first album, which they titled "En pie de paz". This became their best effort so far to take on current issues through the logic and perspective that is so indigenous to them. With a very intimate and hard felt flavor to it, En pie de paz includes rhythms from Son, Montuno, Trova, Rock to Bossa Nova, and even more experimental sounds like those on Llueve, Sigueme and Desde el umbral. The most prominent of the album''s songs are Sobremesa, Vida, and El tiempo sobre ti, which have become iconic to the duo and the new movement that has formed around their music.
