Details:
Peter Oliva

Like so many independent writer/artists today, Peter Oliva''s name and work has been hidden from the path of main stream music and media publications.

Starting out on the streets of little Italy, to the clubs and coffee houses of Greenwich Village, and eventually to the west coast where he now resides in N. California, he has traveled a long and colorful, (albeit, a less publicized) path to his current CD project.

Peter moved to the coastal town of Mendocino, Ca. and it was there that he met and became fast friends with the late Gene Clark. Along with Gene, writer/producer Thomas Jefferson Kaye, drummer/producer Andy Kandanes, and guitarist Willie James Shay, they put together a band to tour Europe with two other former Byrds and their bands: Roger McGuinn, and Chris Hillman. An album was subsequently bootlegged off the BBC broadcast from their Hammersmith Odeon concert, later re-surfacing topside to be legitimately released as the CD, "Three Byrds Land in London". Tours and players come and go, but Gene and Peter worked on in various incarnations of the Clark band for the next eight years or so. These were, "the Mendocino Rhythm section"; the KC Southern Band"; and finally "the Firebyrds" with original Byrd drummer the late Michael Clark, and Guitarists, Matt Andes, (Jo-Jo Gun) and Mike Hardwick, (Jerry Jeff Walker, and currently with, Jon Dee Graham and Eliza Gilkyson).

Of all the bands and musicians he had worked with up till then, Peter says it was Gene Clark, and later Gene Parsons who were taking him seriously as a song writer and performer, and encouraging him as an artist.

In his off time from Gene Clark, Peter also met and befriended ex-Byrd/Burrito Bros. alumnus, Gene Parsons. Together they formed the "Gene Parsons Band". It was with Gene P. that Peter brought some of his songs into the band and the recording studio.

After the break up of the "GPB" there was the last run with "Gene Clark and the Firebyrds", and then Peter disappeared into what he calls, "the Missing Years". During which time he remained musically active as he pursued his writing on a prolific level, while remaining relatively anonymous.

Just recently, in 2004 Peter finished his new CD project, "Postcard from the Promised Land" with his friends, guitarists, Mike Hardwick, Dave Murray, Gene Parsons on steel guitar, Kirk Handley on keyboards, drummer Mike Bissen, and good friend, engineer and co-producer Peter Temple. Together they have finished a CD many are calling:

"A magnificent compilation of poetry and storytelling."

"On this CD Peter sends us snapshots of clarity depicting scenes of Americana from it''s depths of darkness, to its quest for light."

Peter''s CD is being hailed an:

"American Original"

And he has garnered the title of:

"A true Blue Collar Poet"

Peter Oliva''s objective is for the songs he writes to entertain, but more so, to speak to the heart and mind of the listener-and speak ...they will!
