Details:
Picnic''s debut release Stop What You''re Doing brings an exciting blend of musical influences to the acoustic rock beach party.
The band enjoys the outing too: rich folk harmonies surf over N''awlins-style beats. Sunburned guitar lines frolic in the sand with angular mandolin riffs. Waves of surging bass pound the shore while sunstruck drumheads spark a fire for the clambake. Lounging all the while on beach towel, a lush organ, harmonica, and accordian swelter in the sun.
Come on. We''re going on a Picnic!
Montreal-raised brothers, Rich and Warren Valdmanis began singing together while still in school. Growing up in the heady days of Quebec separatism, there was plenty of inspiration for the parody and tragedy that inspire their songs. Maturing on a strict diet of Molson ale, the brothers headed to Portland, Maine, where the frosty surf of the North Atlantic suited them. Strumming beside summer campfires on Higgins Beach after days of surfing defined their laid-back style. Performing outdoors remains their favorite pastime.
After moving to New York City, the brothers hooked up with bassist/producer Rick Watson, keyboardist Harris Ferrell, drummer/percussionist Geoff Clapp (of The Charlie Hunter Quintet), and drummer Rubin Nizri to form Picnic. Their live show takes the recorded tunes to a new level, stretching out in the tradition of the great jam bands. Check out the cd now, and join the Picnic next time they''re playing live in your town!
