The melodies are easy to remember and the words tell a story...and the story is of a connection between David Coss, a New York City jazz musician, and Per Salemyr, a retired Norwegian businessman. The two music lovers met over a decade ago and started a conversation that has led to the collection of heart-felt and inspiring jazz songs you hear on this CD.
Per Salemyr is an avid lover of the music of the great jazz composers, especially the sounds of his idol, Cole Porter. The journey from being a music fan to a songwriter started when he found himself at the notable West Village Garage Restaurant, a downtown jazz club that has been a fixture on the music scene in NYC for many years. After hearing David Coss sing for the first time, Per couldn''t help being drawn to David''s smooth voice and superb interpretation of favorite jazz standards.
The rhythm of a swing tune, the sensitive lyrics of a ballad and the colorful harmonies found in jazz really speak to David Coss. He has performed in front of many thousands of national and international music lovers over the years and always brings joy and his love of music to the stage. David has been making and studying music since he was a young boy, which is evident as he brings his own style and distinct confidence to the interpretations of legendary Jazz compositions.
In June, 2007, Per revealed to David a song he had written called "I Love New York" along with several other melodies he had swirling in his head. To his surprise, David was open to the song and encouraged him to keep writing. In less than a year Per, assisted by his friend Gustav, had written the music and lyrics to 14 new songs...the songs presented here. David and Per worked closely with other great musicians to create these tunes and their efforts are evident in the big sounds that emanate from this disk. The melodies are easy to remember, and the words tell a story...and now we invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy the fruits of this labor of love, the love of Jazz!
