Curtis Branson

Perhaps one of the most interesting stories locally throughout the city of Chicago in the area of Gospel Music (Praise & Worship) has been the emergence of this anointed man of God Curtis Branson. Branson epitomizes elegance, spiritual soundness, and true worship to the gospel music world. Branson’s style has always touch and ministered to hearts of many. His soulful voice, with his massive selection of songs ranging from “I Still Have A Praise” to “Jesus Loves... For the Bible Tells Me So” balanced with other religiously calming cuts, enhances the spiritual vibes of his ministry.

Branson the eldest of five children was born June 12, in Chicago, IL to Curtis Johnson and Emma Branson, and singing gospel was a natural gift since birth. At a young age, parental duties were taken over by his wonderful grandmother Ruby Johnson. Although life with granny majority of days and nights consisted of being in church, it wasn’t until the tender age of 15 when Branson decided that he wanted to learn to play music. A student of Orr High School, in Chicago, under the teaching of Ora Dobbins and Janice Byrd-Lynch, Branson learned to play the piano by ear. From here the journey begins.

After a few years of mastering the piano, Branson was offered his first job as a musician at the First Corinthians M.B. Church with the youth choir. Branson would then move on to become the Minister of Music at the Greater Star MB Church. A couple years had past and Branson decided that his song ministry should reach beyond the wall of the church buildings and in September of 1996 at True Macedonia MB Church is where he gave birth to Total Praise Ministries (Community Choir).

Over the years Branson has become a household name throughout the local Chicagoland churches and his resume speaks for itself. Branson has worked as the Minister of Music for several Churches over the last few years: Liberation Christian Center of Chicago, IL. under the leadership of Bishop James E. Dukes. A member and director for Sweet Holy Spirit Church combined choir under the leadership of Bishop Larry D. Trotter. Also, a member of the National Praise Team of The United Covenant Churches of Christ (UCCC) under the leadership of our presiding bishop, Bishop Larry D. Trotter.

Branson has done work with the likes of all sorts of artist. In August of 1994 thru 1995 Branson was the Assistant Music Director for the hit stage play “My Grandmother Prayed for Me”. Branson has recorded with Vashawn Mitchell (Grace and Mercy) September 2001, William Steward III & V.O.P.M. (I Love You) May 2001, Bishop Larry D. Trotter and The Combined Choirs of Sweet Holy Spirit (Tell the Devil I’m Back) October 1999. He has also performed with Keith Butler & Delegation for Christ Choral, Angela Spivey and the Voices of Victory & Tee and The Company Choir, just naming a few.

Branson released his Debut album “I Still Have A Praise” this fall, 2008.
