Details:
It''s been a year since Pookey Bleum released their third CD ''Chords A Friend Suggested''. It''s been a good year. Pookey Bleum is the definitive power pop team from Ames, Iowa. Quirky. Geeky. Fun.

Pookey Bleum has been playing shows and gaining critical acclaim from their CD ''Chords A Friend Suggested'' since its release in April 2000. Their sound is equally influenced by lo-fi and hi-fi music-making masters, from Apples in Stereo to They Might Be Giants and XTC. Now, even as positive reviews of ''Chords A Friend Suggested'' continue to roll in, Pookey Bleum is set to release their follow-up CD ''Lo Fi Rainbow'' on April 5, 2001. The album was recorded in December 2000 at Catamount Studios in Cedar Falls, Iowa with Tom Tatman and Jon Chamberlain at the mixing board. The new collection of 12 songs strays from Chords'' formula of love, loss, and boy/girl stuff, while still using the same strong combination of quirky lyrics and male/female vocal trade-offs. ''Lo Fi Rainbow,'' already a crowd favorite, ups the ante.

Pookey Bleum began in 1996 as the foursome of Aaron Hefley, Melissa Sorbo, Dan Thayer, and Jeremy Johnson. After a slow start, Dan left the band to pursue real life. The band continued its pursuit of harmony driven power-folk-pop for 2 years before running into guitarist Patrick Fleming in Septermber of 1998 at a benefit concert for tornado victims in northwest Iowa. Joining the band in August of 1999, Patrick''s outrageous stage presence and slack-rock-guitar was the final element needed to push Pookey Bleum into the power-pop realm. Patrick is still sometimes referred to as ''the new guy,'' although he resents it.

The power-pop sounds of Pookey Bleum have been compared to a wide range of artists, from Fountains of Wayne and The Rentals to Weezer, and even Babe The Blue Ox. Their live show has garnered comparisons to The Who and the B-52''s. The band''s name is both a strength and the bane of their existence. ''Pookey Bleum'' means nothing, nor ever will, regardless of how many stories they make up. Why don''t they change the name? Because if they do, you might just forget it.
