Prosper Jones is a graffiti name (Pro)sper J(one)s created in Chicago in 1995 that matured into an emcee alias that has since left listeners wondering what was next. Prosper Jones is the epitome of eclectic when it comes to his music. A mix between Hip-Hop Improvisational and Funk, he does not just rap he makes songs about the daily minutia i.e. sexually transmitted diseases to bicycles to running from crack heads. What fans love most about his songs is the strong narrative combined with a subtle humor approach of topics that otherwise seems preachy or privately uncomfortable.
Primarily a visual and performance artist, Prosper Jones has created a hybrid in his latest music projects. 2007’s “German Expressionism” was recorded on tour in Europe and is a hip-hop /Dub-n-Bass/ House crossbreed. “Ignoranz Smignoranz,” a single from the album was #1 on the charts in the U.K. for three months and got regular spins on BBC Radio 1. This, his sixth independent release to date has proven to be his most successful album to date. 2006’s “The Byproduct” true to definition, directly references the life experiences of Prosper Jones, and chronicles the stories of the people he meets on his path. Prosper has collaborated on hundreds of songs with artists from over 15 countries and featured on dozens of mix tapes, podcasts’ and internet/college radio shows around the U.S. Prosper Jones is the new flavor of hip-hop and a preserver of the culture and everywhere he goes people get a taste of Chicago.
