Even at the age of 28, life experience is something of which Danya has plenty. Her musical aspiration stems directly from an early age when, after her parents’ divorce, music was a primary source of comfort not only for Danya, but also for her mother and brother and sister. “Every night, my mom would sit in our hallway and play her guitar and sing to us to help us fall asleep,” she reminisces. “It made me realize the power a song can have and the way music can change the way you think and what you feel.” Danya hardly remembers a time when she wasn’t singing, even recalling with embarrassed laughter the moments she would gather her family in her backyard and demand they listen to her sing into a makeshift meat-mallet microphone. These early performances signaled the starting point in a lifetime of musical pursuit.
Once you have heard her perform, it is no secret why Danya’s music compels you to stop and listen. Her voice, rich with fullness and energy, is enough to render any listener spellbound. Her heart is evident in each lyric as she weaves stories into songs in a style that makes you instantly recall memories of your own.
