Have you ever felt totally passionate and excited about something in your life? I''m talking about something real that gave you a reason to enjoy living your life despite all the fakes, frauds, let-downs and disappointments this world has to offer. Something that gave you hope and made you feel like you might actually be an important piece in the bigger puzzle even if the final picture wasn''t what you had in mind. For us, Radio Altar has been this something. This band is a way of sharing our love for the passionate expressive power of rock music and the overwhelming hunger we feel to enjoy and celebrate our faith. As individual members we all come from very diverse backgrounds but when it all comes together in a band it really feels like something special is happening. You look around the room and see a couple of Latino guys, a couple of white guys a black girl and a crazy Samoan and you wonder what the heck do these people have in common? Some of us grew up in the ghetto and some of us in upper-middle class suburbia but it is so amazing to see how true Christian love can break down the walls of race and cultural stereo types through the common goal of making music. Even though Radio Altar is a relatively new band with our debut album just being released this past year in 2005, most of us have known each other for much longer. One common thread that seems to link everyone together is the fact that we all grew up playing music in different churches all around the San Francisco bay area. The band came together very gradually over the past two years. A lot of us have other bands or music projects going on but we all came together in the studio for this project because the more we got to know each other on a personal level through the random twists and turns of life the more we realized that we had something in common. Everyone in the group has a strong desire to play music that allows us to be free and passionate about the things we care about. We love worship music and we wanted to really turn up the volume and intensity in a harder rock vein while still holding on to the integrity and uncompromising truth in our lyrics.
We decided to put out our first album in both English and Spanish. If you look around on this website you''ll find another version of this same album. We were very surprised to find that both albums hold up on their own. It doesn''t sound like one is a lame translation and one is the real thing. They both sound awesome in different ways.
