VERY JANE BIOGRAPHY

Starting as a musical partnership in 2005, the members of Very Jane began playing the local South Australian music scene with modest success. With a slow and steady approach to local gigs in the earlier years, the release of their firs first album “The Songs Room Room” has seen them pick up the pace and they have now set the stage for great things to follow.

The duo of Jamie Blechynden and Victoria Jane, have come from very different sides of the musical tracks. Jamie from the small country town Kojonup in WA, and Victoria from Angaston in South Australia. Before their chance meeting in 2003, their music careers were headed in entirely different directions.

Jamie Blechynden has a career that spans over 15 years in the Australian music industry. A one time lead vocalist of a metal band and the front man for the blues and rock band ‘The Grasscutters’ in the late 90’s, Jamie’s passion now lies within alt. country, bluegrass and roots and has come full circle from his somewhat loud beginnings. Jamie plays a variety of instruments for Very Jane including acoustic guitar, dobro, mandolin, lap steel & banjo; as
well as vocals. Not only a talented musician with an affinity for the dobro, he is also an accomplished composer and producer. He recently composed the soundtrack to the 2nd season of Lonely Planet’s ‘Going Bush’ and the SBS documentary Pilgrim Walkabout in 2008.

Lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist Victoria Jane could be depicted as a vocal mesh of Sheryl Crow and Alison Krauss. With a style and harmony that could be best described as sweet, her voice is truly captivating. With roots in drama, jazz and rock, Victoria has been a fixture on the Barossa Music and Drama scene since the early 90’s. Victoria was lead singer for the band ‘After Hours’ and now regularly plays weddings and parties throughout SA
and has lent her voice to a commercial radio jingle or two.

“For this our first album, we went for an acoustic sound with lots of room for the instruments to interact and bounce off of each other. We set out to make an album that embraced their natural sound - no complications. The writing and recording of the album was a journey, a progression. We let the songs determine the style and road we traveled. The greatest compliment a musician can receive is a connection between them and the listener, and for them to relate to the song. If we are able to do that with just one of the songs on The Songs Room then I feel like our first collaboration has been a ride down that road. “
Jamie Blechynden

“We tried to achieve a sound that was polished and heartfelt. The whole recording process for me was such an unbelievably surreal experience, I mean how do you take the songs we have written and have the foresight to make them real. There is nothing contrived about the lyrics, they are simple and honest. I hope that people can connect with them and can find their own meaning.”
Victoria Jane

Playing a blend of acoustic originals that sit within the genres of roots, alt. country and contemporary bluegrass, The Songs Room debut album is a collection of 10 original tracks written by Jamie and Victoria. It could be best described as an honest and emotional journey, with a pure, beautiful vocal that leaves you asking questions and wanting more.
