Details:
J.P. Ranger and Sylvain Dubois are the founding members of The Rape of the Lock (TROTL). They spent the late 70s writing and performing their own music on the local scene in Hull/Ottawa, Ontario. In June 1979, drummer Wayne Palmer joined the band.

For the next three years they toured Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes, playing mostly originals to the college and university crowds. Even though they gained a respectable following, locally and provincially, they did not have the opportunity to record an album at the time, and they eventually disbanded in 1983. In 1996, the band reunited and began writing new material as well as revisiting its progressive-rock past. Their style evolved fusing rock, blues, classical and some jazz into an original blend that is now more contemporary. The result was a compilation CD of music written between 1977 and 1997.

The TROTL CD was independently released in 1998 under the title of The Rape of the Lock (TROTL) and consists of a compilation of 70 minutes of music written and performed by Sylvain Dubois, J.P. Ranger and Wayne Palmer.

The recording on the CD also expresses quite vividly what TROTL sounded like live on stage. The music is at times unpredictable, as the band moves from quiet surrealistic musical landscapes, as in their song Heart and Emotions (a beautiful piece),to full throttle Rock in their song Full Moon. Klock Mill Road and All that Ends Well also presents a classic pieces of Progressive Rock music written in the same spirit as in the seventies style Prog.

TROTL’s music is free spirited and creates a unique moment in time. Ranger, Dubois and Palmer create a wonderful and imaginative musical experience that listeners will come back to time and time again.

TROTL is currently recording music to Samuel Taylor Coleridge''s poem The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. The CD will be released sometime in 2009.
