Ricky Duran was born in Grafton Massachusetts. He grew up listening to his father sing and play popular American and Spanish songs of the ages. He took a strong interest in music, specifically guitar and vocals, at the age of six. His father would teach him songs and Ricky practiced until he was satisfied with his performance. Ricky explored different cultures and styles of music from pop, reggae, hip-hop, and R&B, to rock, jazz, latin, blues, and psychedelic. Ricky found his voice most pronounced in the blues and psychedelic realm, listening to records of his favorite artists among them Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Albert King. Ricky would listen to the songs for weeks on end until he could play them practically note for note. He performed at parties for friends and family, but at the age of ten when he had his first taste of performing for bigger audiences he was driven to another level of determination. It was then that he discovered the power of communication through music. At the age of twelve, he and his father decided to invest their time on creating a recording studio to put Ricky on his first record. As he recorded cover songs of artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Green day, Blink 182, and Jimi Hendrix, he began working on original compositions for his first album. He completed his cover album but would not release it because of changes in musical direction. Ricky’s original compositions began to take a unique shape. Although influences can be heard in his songs, he has his own image and style of sound. Ricky became recognized and respected within his community as a full out artist. He played gigs in and around his town, and would sit in with other musicians whenever he had the chance, while in high school his vision was that of a three-piece group both heavy and dynamic. After graduating from Grafton High, Ricky had no intention of doing anything other than writing and performing. He took notice of Berklee College of music, a college that has been the home of hundreds of internationally respected musicians. In the fall of 2007 Ricky received his acceptance letter to Berklee and moved to Boston to be a full time student. Ricky’s prayers were answered when he found Chris Cabrera and Ehssan Karimi (Ace); Chris, a unique bass player lived on the same floor as Ricky, and Ace, a well rounded drummer turned out to be his roommate. With this undeniably powerful rhythm section Ricky could finally explore his musical ideas with a full band. It was not long before they became a force in the Berklee community. Ricky and his band now perform at local clubs in Boston and at venues in New York and Central Massachusetts. They have developed a family like relationship reveled in the music they play. Ricky co-produced the band’s first CD “Worldwide” released under his own independent label “Vincent Valley Records”. Ricky is working on the promotion of the Worldwide album and in the production of his new song collection to be released in the second half of 2009. Ricky is a true American original delivering lyrics and music with artistry and virtuosity reaching across generations.
