RE: Who are they?

Rhymes Elect is a hip hop group that has committed to spread the Word of God. Rhymes Elect is currently represented by two emcees, but is a larger ministry team made up of others that contribute heavily to the cause of Jesus Christ.

History
Rhymes Elect began as a rap ministry in Ames, Iowa in 1996. Members, Verses and Big Nate (featured on the album) saw the need to interpret the gospel through the means of hip hop (yes, even in the middle of Iowa) in order to reach a generation whose "spot, is not the spot of His children" (Deut. 32:5).

Their first opportunity came on an inner city missions trip (Inner-City University Motivated Missions) to Chicago, under the direction of the pastor (also featured on the album) of the Body of Christ Christian Worship Center in Ames, Iowa. Eventually the message was brought back to Iowa and the ministry began to grow. Shortly thereafter, Signet-ring became apart of the ministry and Nate moved out of state to pursue a career. Since then, the ministry has been able to spread the message in Alabama, Missouri, Ohio, Illinois, Virginia and Tennessee.

Though Verses and Signet-ring had been separated by long distance since leaving Iowa, they continued to build upon the ministry God had called them to for this season. Efforts to communicate consisted of emails, phone calls, and periodic road trips. The road trips became more frequent when they were given the chance to produce their first album after meeting the owner of 4-TRESS Studios at a New Years Eve event in Johnson City. He believed in the ministry so much that he made sacrifices to make sure they were able to spread the Word by producing Lyrical Resurrection.

Lyrical Resurrection
The Lyrical Resurrection is a project about change. The album is an encouragement and a conviction to the listener; an attempt to influence and impart a spirit of change in their lives. Rhymes Elect''s goals on this project are:

1) To introduce the lost to the Lord Jesus and His freedom from sin and darkness.
2) To reintroduce the Good News to those that may have fallen astray in these perilous times.
3) Lastly, we want to remind the Body of Christ, of His mercy, goodness and His ways.

The 15-track project was completed in Spring 2002. Production on the album provide songs that consists of upbeat, high tempo tracks like "The Anthem (He is the Rock)" and "Mic Controlla (E.M.C.E.E)" to jazz infused hip hop tracks like "Death Becomes Her" and "Redeemed" in which their wives provided background singing and voices.

"Christ?an" is a song with strong conviction that asks aren''t you supposed to be a Christian (referring to those who may not try to live Christ-like). In a verse that is constructively critical of rappers, Christian and secular, Verses dramatically states:

Get out of the mindless, sublimeless/this rhyme is a wake up call to all that seek until you find His direction/let the Son eclipse your bling/counteract those things like antihistamines/Hardcore true Christian, Listerine will clean your breath/but death, yo, where''s your sting/Nah-mean? Let the King reign over you duke/want more this is just rhyme line thirty-two!

Signet-ring emphatically responds with a rhyme intended for hypocritical churchgoers:

Scared to see the tendency to glorify the ministry/don''t have to leave the church cuz two or three disagree/church-hoppers, the Holy Ghost filled stoppers/the gossipers, sit right next to you and won''t even stop to talk to you/suppose to be Christian, to quick to get a hit/Christian using conferences like a methadone clinic/Hey yo! Who do you rep? And who is your click?/the baptist, pentacostal, or the catholic?!

This song, not meant to be controversial, shows the diversity in the message that Rhymes Elect is spreading, along with the wide audience they want to reach. Nevertheless, each track ultimately points the way to Christ, as in the song "Who is He?" On this track Verses and Signet-ring, with the help of DJ Selah, introduce to some and remind others of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. "Who is He?" is just one of the songs that let you know where the heart of the group lies. While much of today''s music focuses on self-gain and prideful ambitions, Rhymes Elect has chosen to take the focus off of them to promote the Good News of Jesus Christ. They mean it when they say that, "God is calling for a Lyrical Resurrection!"

"Signet-Ring and Verses are set to drop their latest project "Lyrical Resurrection". They have an East Coast sound mixed with a hint of the south. I shouldn''t compare them to anyone else, but ... the closest sound I could describe them as would be Cross Movement mixed with a little bit of Outkast. Their beats are different, not quite East Coast, but it has some elements of it, Most Definitely Tight. Judge for your self."
- Urban Music Review

Many lives have been changed by the introduction of Jesus Christ through the outlet of Christian Hip Hop. Though the group has been blessed with opportunities to minister to young people in the Midwest and Southeast, their message is worldwide. Rhymes Elect plans to have longevity in the industry because of their focus on the ministry. Though their history goes back over 6 years, it is continuing to be written as God sees fit. Pray that they continue in His divine order.
