Greetings from the Bayou Liberty Jazz Band. Our group was started several years ago as an offshoot of the https://www.tradebit.commany Jazz Club, an organization formed to promote and preserve traditional New Orleans in Slidell, a town 40 miles north of New Orleans. The band draws its name from Bayou Liberty, a local bayou that drains into Lake Pontchartrain here in Slidell. We play locally at weddings, parties, and local fairs, and have generated interest in young people of the parish, as well as bringing back memories for the older crowd.
Our members mostly began their musical careers during the N.O. Jazz revival of the 40''s and 50''s. Willie Gray, on trumpet, has been playing in and around the Northshore since the late 1960''s, and is quite competent in the medium. Tom Carlton has played trombone for many years with "The Shamrocks", and has played throughout the Gulf coast. Bris Jones, the "Iron man of Bourbon Street", has played clarinet there for many years, and is featured here on banjo. Pat Cooke is on bass, and remains active in New Orleans and throughout the Gulf coast. The younger members of the group are Paul Tasso, on drums, Paul Spitzfaden on piano, and myself, Rory Duffour, on clarinet. We have all shared a love for this traditional music.
We hope you enjoy this music as much as we did laying the tracks. Again, our goal is to preserve the New Orleans Jazz sound for generations to come. Please drop us a line if you would like to hear more or just like to "talk trade".
