Media Album Reviews:

-By Robert Herndon/Powersource Magazine October 2004-
"This is about as Christian Country as Christian Country can get. From the opening cut (The Patience of Job) to the last track (Anywhere There''s God''s Will), this 10 piece collection of songs reminds us how American Country music is. My favorite track has to be the country swing tune titled ''Brother Joe''. This is one I could keep listening to over and over. Robert''s voice although not extremely radio friendly (but then was Aaron Tippens?) cuts like a knife through a piece of lemon meringue pie.
It''s not often that the production quality of an album like this can come across as cleanly as this. Some of the songs don''t necessarily fit with one another, but can be overlooked with such automatic classics as ''Baptize Me, John'' and ''Is It Me'', which has some of the finest steel playing I''ve heard in a long time. It reminded me an awful lot of Asleep At The Wheel in its styling and content. As far as I''m concerned, music like that can come my way all day. The guitar picking, the harmonica plucking, and the percussion all ties in nicely on this package, and exhibits true Christian Country music at its finest."

-Pete Smith/The Advertiser/Strictly Independent
"Robert is a fine country singer and a man with deep rooted Christian beliefs. These two aspects of the man''s character come together here with ten superb original songs performed in a variety of country styles. Robert has engaged a group of musicians who have total empathy with the singer''s music and this comes across strongly on songs like ''The Patience of Job'', ''Brother Joe'', Baptize Me John'', and ''The Revelations''."

SPECIAL DEDICATION:

This album is dedicated to the memory of the late Rev. "Brother Joe" Worbington, a pastor who was loved and respected by many. Some of my fondest memories are of the many Sundays I stood on a stool behind the pulpit at Enon Baptist Church, singing a "special" as he sat in the pastor''s chair to my right. I''ll never forget the day he asked me to promise him one thing..."Robert, someday I want you to go to Nashville and make music." That day I made him a promise I have always intended to keep.

Many years have passed since then, but now that promise is fulfilled with the production of an all original Country Gospel album entitled "The Gospel Truth". During the songwriting process, I am sure his spirit guided my fingers with the creation of every word, note, and chord progression. During the recording process, I am sure his spirit encouraged me, sitting to my right like in the days of my childhood. And now completed, I am certain he is smiling in Heaven...with resin on his "baptized bow", playing along with his fiddle on the streets of gold."

Lyrics: All Songs Written by Robert Martin

THE PATIENCE OF JOB

Sometimes I get tired and restless
Weary from the trials of the world
And long for a heavenly home
Where the gates are made out of pearl
When I think I''m down at rock bottom
Feelin'' the strain of a heavy load
I pray for the strength of Samson
And hope for The Patience of Job

(CHORUS)
If I can''t have the strength of Samson
I settle for The Patience of Job
I might not move any mountains
That loom up ahead or down the road
There''s always a way around ''em
Given time a stack of rocks will erode
If I can''t have the strength of Samson
I settle for The Patience of Job

(Turnaround)

We all have our share of trouble
Hard times are bound to strike us all
When you get down and out
You can''t rob Peter to pay Paul
Now if you are sick and sufferin''
Doctors say they just don''t know
Pray for the strength of Samson
And hope for The Patience of Job

(Chorus)
If you can''t have the strength of Samson
Settle for The Patience of Job
You might not move any mountains
That loom up ahead or down the road
There''s always a way around ''em
Given time a stack of rocks will erode
If you can''t have the strength of Samson
Settle for The Patience of Job

AM I MY BROTHER''S KEEPER

There were two brother''s
One was a shepherd, the other a farmer
Offerings were made to heaven
One was accepted, the other rejected

(Chorus)
Am I My Brother''s Keeper
Or a loser a weeper
A lonely vagabond
Am I My Brother''s Keeper
A mark goes deeper
Than the river runs

(Turnaround)

Cain was angry at Abel
Feelin'' forsaken a life was taken
Nobody watchin''
The earth was cryin'', rumors were flyin''

(CHORUS)

(Instrumental)

Cain, where is your brother
Can''t blame another, guilty of murder
God was the judge and jury
From that day forward a curse I''ve carried

(Chorus x 2)

(Tag)
Am I My Brother''s Keeper
A mark goes deeper than the river runs
A mark goes deeper than the river runs

BROTHER JOE

I was only five years old when I met Brother Joe
He preached at a little church at the end of a gravel road
Out in the country a lot of good seeds were sewn
Thanks to the ministry of good ol'' Brother Joe

They say he played fiddle in his younger days
''Til he heard The Lord''s call and had to change his ways
He gave up the honky tonks and got baptized with his bow
Picked up The Bible and became Brother Joe

(Chorus)
A good and faithful servant is what he tried to be
He loved The Lord, practiced what he preached
When we get to heaven and they call the roll
The Lord''s gonna say well done to good ol'' Brother Joe

(Turnaround)

I often think about the things he taught us then
Lessons learned, the life he led, the war he waged on sin
When he preached the word of God he tried to save your soul
There''s a lot of jewels in a crown for Brother Joe

(Chorus)

(Tag)
When we get to heaven and they call the roll
The Lord''s gonna say well done to good ol'' Brother Joe
You were a good and faithful servant
Welcome home, Brother Joe

THE GOSPEL TRUTH

Mary and Joseph
Went down to Bethlehem
And there in a manger
Brought forth their first born son
The angels were singin''
It was a brand new day
Jesus was born
On simple bale of hay

He grew up a carpenter''s son
But He had other plans
His life had a purpose
And He would use His hands
And as they crucified Him,
His work on earth was done
The promise was fulfilled
But the battle had just begun

(Chorus)
He preached The Word
On the shores of Galilee
Made fishers of men
And a blind man see
The chosen one
He did what he had to do
He''s comin'' back someday
That''s The Gospel Truth

(Turnaround)

He arose on the third day
And left an empty tomb
Appeared to His disciples
To tell ''em what to do
And as He ascended
An angel that they saw
Said the same way He''s leavin''
He''s returnin'' to take us all

(Chorus)

(Tag)
God''s only Son
He did what He had to do
He''s comin'' back someday
That''s The Gospel Truth
He''s comin'' back someday
For me and you

BAPTIZE ME, JOHN

(Chorus)
Baptize Me, John
In the name of The Father up above
Baptize Me, John
And you might see a dove
Sent from heaven
As a loud voice calls me son
He''ll be proud
Baptize Me, John

Well, Jesus went down to the river
To be baptized by His cousin John
And when John saw Him, he was reluctant
Said I''m unworthy to baptize God''s son

(Chorus)

(Turnaround)

Well, John submersed Him in the River Jordan
Like the others he had done
But when He came up out of that water
The heavens parted for God''s only son

(Chorus)

(Instrumental)

(Chorus x 2)

(Tag)
Yeah, He''s just proud
Baptize Me, John

WHAT DOES IT PROFIT THE MAN

A rich man came to Jesus
There was a question on his mind
Master, how do I get to heaven
And live until the end of time
Jesus answered the rich man
Keep the commandments here below
There''s something else I need to tell you
But I''m not sure you want to know

(Chorus)
What Does It Profit The Man
To gain the whole world and lose his soul
In my Father''s house are many mansions
Where lost men won''t walk on streets of gold

(Turnaround)

The rich man said to Jesus
I''ve kept the commandments since my youth
Tell me what else is required
What on earth can I do
Jesus answered the rich man
All your possessions, you don''t need
There will be treasure in heaven
If you take up the cross and follow me

(Chorus)

(Instrumental)

(Chorus)

(Tag)
In my Father''s house are many mansions
Where lost men won''t walk on streets of gold
Where lost men won''t walk on streets of gold

IS IT ME

One night in Jerusalem
In the upper room
Jesus broke the bread and poured the wine
He told the disciples
Do this to remember Me
My body and My blood I''ll give in time

(Chorus)
Is It Me, Is It Me
Dear Lord, please tell me it''s not me
Is It Me, Is It Me
Dear Lord, please tell me it''s not me

(Instrumental)

As they sat ''round the table
He caught them by surprise
Said one of you here now will betray Me
They talked among themselves
Who would do this thing
Then they asked the Lord in disbelief

(Chorus)

(Instrumental)

Then Judas said to Jesus
Master, is it I
Jesus answered Him, you have said
Go quickly now
Do what you have to do
You''ll regret the life you have led

(Chorus x 2)

(Tag)
Oh, Lord, please let it not be me

GOLGOTHA

A rugged cross, three rusty nails
A rocky hill in Israel
A jagged face of sand and stone
Your mournful cries were not alone
A willing son, a father''s will
A sacrifice to seal the deal
Flesh and bone, blood, sweat and tears
Stains on the ground for many years

(Chorus)
Golgotha, you''re not the one to blame
Don''t feel guilty about things you couldn''t change
I know you''re hurtin'' bad, feelin'' awful sad
Well, I heard that''s not why He came
Golgotha, don''t hang your head in shame

A Roman soldier, hammer in hand
Metallic sounds can haunt a man
As the years go slowly by
Your deepest fears are realized
The wind and rain won''t wash away
The memory of your darkest day
Or the blood of an innocent man
Dyin'' for those who couldn''t understand

(Chorus)
Golgotha, you''re not the one to blame
Don''t feel guilty about things you couldn''t change
Yeah, he was crucified and we keep askin'' why
Well, I heard that is why He came
Golgotha, don''t hang your head in shame

(Instrumental)

(Bridge)
He hung there upon the cross
Saved a world that would be lost
Without Him, we''d be like common thieves
You were just a place in time
We were all in on the crime
So you''re not the one who needs to grieve

(Chorus)
Golgotha, you''re not the one to blame
Don''t feel guilty about things you couldn''t change
No, it was not your fault, what He did to save us all
Now I know that is why he came
Golgotha, don''t hang your head in shame

(Tag)
He hung there upon the cross
Saved a world that would be lost
Without Him that is why He came
Golgotha, don''t hang your head in shame
Oh, Golgotha, don''t hang your head in shame

THE REVELATIONS

John was on an island
The spirit of The Lord came down
He heard a mighty voice
Behind him like a trumpet sound
He turned to see who was there
What he saw made him really scared
He fell down on the ground
As if he were dead and gone

In the midst of seven candlesticks
One unto The Lord appeared
Placed His right hand upon John
Told him, "Have no fear"
His hair was white, His eyes aflame
Said The Lord was dead, but He lived again
And He''d be alive for evermore, Amen

(Chorus)
He said I''m Alpha and Omega
Got somethin'' here to show you
Open up your mind so you can see
A vision of the future and what shall come to pass
The Lamb will open seven seals
Write down The Revelations
All things to you will be revealed

(Turnaround)

''Til this very day
There''s still some confusion in the church
About some of the things
That John wrote in his work
The bottomline''s what happens last
The Prince of Peace defeats the devil and casts
Him into lake of fire for eternity

(Chorus)

(Instrumental)

(Chorus)

(Tag)
So, John wrote The Revelations
All things to him were revealed

ANYWHERE THERE''S GOD''S WILL

Old Noah had to build an ark
There''d be a flood
A certain size and shape
Made of gopher wood
Pressed for time need two of each kind
But he beat the rain
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way

The Lord appeared to Moses
In the burnin'' bush
He sent him down to Egypt
On a mission to rush
Ol'' Pharoah let me people go
Cannan awaits
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way

(Chorus)
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way
It''s written in the Bible on every page
The Holy Ghost is in control if you''ll just obey
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way

(Turnaround)

Joshua led God''s people
Down to Jericho
They marched ''round seven times
And let the trumpets blow
Those city walls came tumblin'' down
In ruins they lay
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way

(Chorus)

(Instrumental)

The Lord is still lookin''
For a few good men
To carry out His mighty work
Until the end
Listen close for The Master''s call
Each time that you pray
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way
Anywhere There''s God''s Will there is a way

(Chorus x 2)
