Hi, everybody! Thanks for stopping by to find out about my music. I really appreciate it.
Please take a moment to listen to my songs. I think you''ll be pleasantly surprised - there''s a little something for almost everyone.
Here, let me explain what I mean.
TRACK 1. "From Beginning To End" is a rocking tune, a bit like Dave Matthews, with some cool slide guitar.

TRACK 2. "Counting Sheep" - If you like to Samba, this tune will really get you moving! I''ve been asked to play this song repeatedly at my solo gigs. It''s a song about dreaming about life... Check it out and see if you know what I mean.
TRACK 3. "You Can Change" - If you''ll translate this song into your language, I''ll sing it for you. So far I can sing parts in Spanish (and English, of course!) Why? Because this song has a simple and crucial universal message: "You can change your life right now." It''s a tender piece. Sing along with your heart...
TRACK 4. "Kindling" - This song features fancy flatpicking, huge background vocals a-la early Elton John, and a good thought: "We are kindling to a single flame, warming everything."
TRACK 5. "Rainbow" - This is a more traditional sounding piece, kind of like Paul McCartney playing in a Folk music band. The song compares us to the colors of the rainbow; the message is this: "We''re different for a reason - we NEED diversity. We need a rainbow." If for no other reason, check it out to hear me play the harmonica for the first time!
TRACK 6. "Enlightened" - This is my answer to the following question: "What would happen if a bunch of Buddhist monks who knew the Beatles and Peter Gabriel played pop guitar rock?" Yeah, so I stretch a few boundaries with this one...
TRACK 7. "The Wind" - As a conscientious guitarist and singer/songwriter, I couldn''t resist covering this great song by an artist whose talent, journey, spirituality and benevolence have intrigued me all these years and to this day: Cat Stevens (now known as Yusuf Islam).
TRACK 8. "A Beautiful Place" - There are different ways to look at the world we live in; I hope we will always appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. This recording is simultaneously as big as the sky and as intimate as a whisper.
TRACK 9. "Daughter" - There is a mysterious energy that often seems to exist between a father and his daughter; whether they get along or not there''s a loving connection that cannot be denied. In a soulful Smokey Robinson-like style: "There''s no greater love than a little girl''s love for her father."
TRACK 10. "Amanecer" - Imagine that you are dreaming about your lover - one of those really detailed, intimate, smouldering dreams that you never want to end - and you are awaked by the sunrise. "Amanecer" means "daybreak," and this Getz/Gilberto-styled bossa nova features some of my most romantic lyric poetry:

TRACK 11. "Namaste''" - This song, which features Tibetan children singing the "Song For the Dalai Lama," and a really cool arrangement a-la Enigma or Deep Forest, is built around the beautiful Sanskrit word, "Namaste''." This powerful word can be translated as: "May the Spirit in Me greet the Spirit in You." It is a greeting you will often hear in peaceful circles, but imagine the effect it could have on the world if we all greeted each other this way...
TRACK 12. "Bedtime Story" - This song is a little bit country ballad and a little bit lullabye, and it has a true story behind it - a mystical experience that has affected my life in music very deeply. Mind if I share? : )

My new friends, Kayli and Ely came to my home one day to play her new piano piece for me.
Putting the cassette in the player Kayli said matter-of-factly, "It needs words, Glen."
"Does it have a name?" I asked as she pressed play.
"I call it ''Bedtime Story,'' but I don''t want that to influence what you write."
If only I had known... The melody floated like a cloud and was as warm and unforgetable as the sun. I told her it would make a very beautiful instrumental.
"It needs WORDS, Glen." was all she said, so I agreed to hold on to the tape and see what I could do.
One week later the words came. And with the words, some very strong feelings. It felt good. When I sang it for her, Kayli seemed thoughtful. She liked it.
We rushed to the studio and recorded ''Bedtime Story,'' a tale of a family''s heritage of love, joy and hope, passed down generations every night in a tender voice and a goodnight kiss.
Weeks later Kayli would tell me that she was already three months pregnant with her first child when she gave me the music! So I often wonder, who was holding the pen when those words came? Was it me or the little baby boy born six months later?!
I think that anyone who ever had a child, ever dreamed of having a child, or who ever was a child, would love ''Bedtime Story.''

So there you have it. I''m so proud of this, my first solo recording, that I really hope you''ll preview it and maybe even pick up a copy. You might even want to give a copy as a gift to someone you care about. Originally, I wasn''t going to put any focus on selling this CD - I just wanted to share it! But now that it is complete, and with all the powerful experiences I have had and witnessed surrounding these songs, I''ve decided to make this music my life. FRANKLIN - Singer and songwriter Glen Roethel from New York will perform a special song tonight at 7 p.m. on stage at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse that focuses on the loss of Bridget Hughes.
Roethel''s song will benefit the church and Upstream, a Laconia-based coalition of more than 140 agencies, businesses and individuals. The charity, working closely with the United Way, has operated for more than 15 years with primary prevention programs and outreach efforts to strengthen family life in the Lakes Region.
A friend had conveyed the news of Bridget''s death to Roethel through an e-mail sent by a mother of one of Hughes'' friends after the 14year-old lost her 18-month battle with cancer this past March.
Roethel wrote the song "Alison''s News," based on the e-mail and its touching message.
When Roethel read the e-mail, "I found myself writing," he said. "This story had to be heard, and it had value and meaning."
Roethel writes songs about aspects of daily life that "aren''t being spoken about enough." He began the song about Hughes with a journal entry and then created the lyrics and the tune "almost instantly."
He hopes his song about Bridget can help people.
"It''s about trying to find something good, some hope, out of something terrible," he said. He did not know Bridget personally, but since his own mother passed away three years ago, the e-mail describing Bridget''s loss "touched on that nerve."
Roethel''s reasons for helping out Upstream go back to his childhood when he and his brothers were adopted. The family related program that connects people with service organizations is "very precious," he said.
Tom Grogan, who helped found Upstream 15 years ago, and is a childhood friend of Roethel''s, reported that Glen is going out on his own for the first time with his new solo album.
"He has always written songs and music from the heart, very personal songs," said Grogan, "I''ve always known Glen has had a message to share that people would appreciate." ....
