Details:
"Good music doesn''t always come from the most talented musicians or producers. The best music comes from someone who enjoys writing songs and has interesting things to say."

At least that is the opinion of Roger Batin, former lead singer of the Billy Webb Band. Now Roger has released his first solo effort WHO I AM. Consisting of eleven original compositions and one cover, the disc is a heartfelt journey through life. "I try to write music based on my personal experiences and observations because I know if I''m feeling a certain way, others are too."

Roger initially played piano and later studied the cello before settling on the guitar. At an early age, Roger was introduced to a broad variety of music. "I grew up playing Bach and Beethoven while listening to everything from John Denver to the Beatles." As a teenager, Roger played in bands that mimicked the guitar heavy sound of the 1980''s. Later, artists such as Wayne Watson and Steven Curtis Chapman would further influence his evolving musical style.

Nowadays, Roger''s music is a blend of folk and pop flavored with elements of rock, country and jazz. To achieve this diversity of sound, Roger enlisted the help of many friends. Blues and jazz guitarist Billy Webb, metal guitarist Darryl Murakami, gospel performer Wendell Salvador, violinist James Kim and alternative singer/songerwriter Kiik Araki-Kawaguchi all lended their talent to this project.

When asked to describe his style, Roger says, "Imagine the voice of James Taylor singing early U2 lyrics to the music of Jars of Clay." That''s quite an eclectic description. But don''t take his word. Take a listen for yourself.

Update 10/16/5: Roger is currently recording his second solo album. The release date has been moved to March 2006. He plans to record 17-18 songs of which 12-13 will be placed on the upcoming CD.
