Details:
Rub has been playing regularly since 1996, and after more than six years the original lineup has become far greater than the sum of its parts. The songs of singer/guitarist Jonathan Maki were the starting point for what is now a truly solid band. Strumming a classical guitar and belting out self-penned tunes since 7th grade-almost 17 years ago-Maki played coffee houses and open mics in the city of Milwaukee until meeting drummer Ted Fleming. Immediately, the Brew City saw a duo with a promising experimental sound.

The simple setup of drums, guitar, and vocals soon became a full four-piece band when
forces were joined with bassist Jonas Wittke and guitarist Ben Davis, friends and musical
collaborators for over 10 years. The unity between the four members was almost
instantaneous, and the time since has been occupied by great live shows in Milwaukee
and Minneapolis-where fans have embraced the electricity and good feelings projected
by the band.

Laundry Sky, recorded at the close of 2002, is the band''s first full-length album, made up
of 11 songs that take the listener through a full spectrum of emotions. The album begins
with the triumphant pop energy of "Pillow" (arranged just days before the recording session) and ends with the cathartic breath of the album''s title track. With poetic vocals,
intense grooves, and catchy choruses, the songs in between seem to tell a story, varying
in intensity and offering the listener a great selection of indie-pop and pop-rock songs.

"Rub represents the fully realized version of Jonathan Maki''s songs, fleshing out the local singer-songwriter''s solo stylings into something grander. His songs had already won fans in both Milwaukee and Minneapolis, where Maki lived briefly, before he began collaborating with what would become Rub. On Saturday, the group celebrates the release of its debut full-length, Laundry Sky, an 11-song set of accomplished, accessible pop. The slickly produced album toys with funk and indie-pop, but stays centered with solid songwriting." The Onion
