Biography
It''s very rare a voice comes like a breath of fresh air these days since uncreative melodies and rhythms surround us today. A cold world of sampling and recycling is the name of the game with no soul what so ever. However there''s a voice that stands out from all of the funk and fury, the voice of Sam Archer. A voice that communicates directly to the heart He''s a diamond that came out of the rough and found his place capturing the attention of the whole world and is shining his light from the eternal source of creation.

In the past Three years since debuting with his first album Soca Therapy and his sophomore album The Return, Sam kept himself busy with many activities. He performed at various venues national including the 1998 Hurricane George Relief Telethon that aired on NBC worldwide; he also performed at SOB''s and the first Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum. Internationally he performed in the Caribbean (St. Martin, St. Thomas, Trinidad & Tobago) and West Africa (Senegal) where he was warmly received. Preparations for a South African trip are presently in the works.

More than just someone, who entertains, Sam is a prolific songwriter who sings about Spirituality, Encouragement and Social issues. He has performed for community based human rights organization such as The Amadu Diallo Coalition and the Haitian Coalition for justice. His song "It Will Never Change" has been the new theme song on radio stations around the country concerned with Human Rights such as WBAI 99.5FM in New York City.

Still trying to describe his sound, one concludes that it''s World Soul, where he''s fusing African elements with other musical expressions of the Diaspora.

Sam grew up in the village of Mt. Pleasant on the island of Tobago. There he was surrounded by many different musical influences. He started at the tender age of five years taking piano lessons. He developed his singing and piano playing and took part in many church groups such as the choir, orchestra and steel pan. At age fourteen he was playing in the local hotels and assisting some of the local bands with music direction.

When meeting Sam in person one is surprise how someone could be capable of generating a charm and appeal that is so immediately approachable. His presence on the stage commands the listener in a unique way to marvel about something quite unexplainable and at the same time wanting to hear more.

Soca Therapy showed more of the Caribbean side of Sam with a Soca/jazz/zouk flavor with songs like Salvation, a song of hope for us to start the healing process. Another featured song is Sweet Allover, which is a nice groove for the dance hall. The classic song on the CD is Caribbean Man in America; Not only Caribbean people but also all people that migrate to the United States can identify with this song.

The Return is based on Sam''s journey to West Africa and visiting the door of no return. Most of the material on the album deals with the black experience from the Motherland to the New World; the blessings and struggles we''re faced with even up to today. Songs like Return (title track) has a touch of Avant-garde and a Negro spiritual choir which gives the listener a back in time feel and it goes with the lyrical content of the song about a prayer of a slave in the 15th century. Another selection to enjoy is "Just Rough", which speaks about the progress and contributions of Africans and the Diaspora in the world. For jazz lovers, Sam fuses jazz and soca on a song called Jazz Up de Soca which shows versatility in his writing and arrangements.

He is the newest singing sensation of World Soul. MAKE ROOM.
