Details:
It was the third week in June, 2002 and WBAI 99.5 FM (a New York based community radio station) needed a theme song for the unjust events that was taking place in America. This was the week that the unfortunate execution of Shaka Sankofa took place. Two and a half years prior we had to deal with the unfortunate incident of Amadou Diallo who was killed in the Bronx, in a hail of 41 bullets by law enforcers from the NYPD. Prior to that we also learned of an incident in 1997 that involved Abner Louima who was sodomized with a broom stick in Brooklyn by civil servants under the banner of the NYPD. These cases were taking place and a new theme song began to air for our education, healing and encouragement through these times. The song was entitled "Till we do something about it,". This song was written and performed by Sam Archer, a humble artist with a strong message. This song came from his 2nd album "The Return." The song eventually became popular at schools celebrating Black History Month and also used as a conversation piece when discussing social issues.
Well there''s a new song from Sam Archer entitled "My Blackness," another song that provokes positive conversation across color lines. It preaches that we all (All races) deal with similar issues and that one race is not better that the other. There''s no need to be afraid of my blackness. Black is beautiful, it''s a part of the collage that makes our world a special place in this universe.

Why do you hate like so
feelings you may hide
but you cannot let go
I cannot understand why
don''t be afraid
brother please open your eyes

Why are you afraid of my blackness
why are you afraid of my soul
brother please get rid of this madness
let''s heal this ill so we''ll become whole

Years of my blood running dry
the underdog for life
see the look in my eye
this isn''t how it should be
if love''s in our hearts
we must lift humanity
