Details:
Seth Farber was born into music. Raised in New York City by his mother, a piano teacher, and his father, a music afficionado and amateur violinist, Seth discovered his affinity for the piano at the age of four. It''s no wonder that years later he''d find himself one of the busiest keyboard players in Manhattan. Since 1984, Seth could be heard playing in the blues, rock and jazz clubs, piano bars, theatres and studios around town. In 1988 he joined the band of rock/blues sensation Willy "Mink" DeVille as musical director. A veteran of more than 20 European tours, he''s a featured player on the 1993 CD " Willy DeVille Live " which was certified gold in Europe. Over the past 10 years Seth has also recorded and performed with artists Odetta, Billy Joel, Cliff Eberhardt, Curtis Stigers, Chuck Jackson, Popa Chubby, Alejandro Escovedo, Little Steven, Liz Queler and many others. Starting in 1997 Seth began working on the Broadway show "Smokey Joe''s Cafe" as conductor, pianist and synthesist. He is now playing in the orchestra for the Broadway show "Fosse". In 1999 Seth arranged, produced and played piano on Odetta''s landmark recording "Blues Everywhere I Go" on M.C. Records, which was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Always a composer in his own right, Farber has scored a number of animated films for high definition TV. However it was with the critically acclaimed 1996 release of "Late One Night", Seth''s solo piano CD, that it finally became apparent just how special his talents are. "Late One Night" nods in the direction of Dr. John, Professor Longhair and jazz legend Gene Harris, blending New Orleans blues, jazz and ragtime into a soulful piano gumbo. As described by Dirty Linen, "Farber''s debut as a solo artist is nothing short of excellent".
In April 2000 Seth was the Music Director for the PBS special PianoGrand, a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the piano. Some of the artists on the program were Billy Joel, Dave Brubeck, Jerry Lee Lewis, Cyrus Chestnut, Diana Krall, Marcus Roberts, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Toshiko Akiyoshi and others.
