A native of Northern California, Shay Fox was born on the 11th of September in Carmichael, CA.(suburb of Sacramento) The first born of two school teachers, he moved to the wine country of the Napa Valley at an early age. It was in Napa that Shay would find his love for music, and ironically later start his music career.
Both of Shay''s parents were blessed with a love for music, and they shared it with him early on in life. His mother taught piano lessons as a side job in order to stay home with Shay, and it wasn''t long until he started learning to play the piano. While playing several collegiate sports for Concordia University in Irvine, Shay still found time to sing in the concert choir as well as a 4 part vocal group, and play his guitar in the band leading worship at the campus church.
Graduating with a major in Theological Studies, he hoped to find a career doing youth and family ministry. After a couple of failed attempts, as well as several stops in cities across California, he found his way back to the wine country, and a familiar feeling of home.
It was in Napa that he first performed at an open mic night, and caught the attention of all kinds of people who loved listening to him play. Shay recorded his debut EP album at Tarpan recording studio in San Rafael, and soon after signed to Shoestring Angel Records. His freshman release contains his own songs written all in the last year and a half.
Shay lists his most recent musical influences as Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and John Mayer. His songs are rhythmic and open, as well as melodic and well rounded.
