I am a singer/songwriter/producer/vocal coach/sometimes actor from the Boston area doin'' the damn thing! I sing r&b/soul/hip-hop. I love comedy too. One grandfather, a jazz musician who fronted his own band "Buddy Muse and the Boys" and Boston radio show, often performed with Count Basie, Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday. Her other grandfather who coincidentally was named Shay, trained at the Boston Conservatory of Music as an opera singer. Her mom, a classically trained opera/gospel singer, fronted her own band when Shay was just a little girl."I remember being 7 years old sitting at the top of the basement stairs with my brothers watching them rehearse for hours every night. Every day I would sit and listen to my mom''s record collection so music was a constant presence. From then on I would listen to records after school all day every day. I later realized this would be the path that I would walk on for the rest of my life."
Over the years her love affair with music would blossom and she would learn to play instruments such as clarinet, drums and keyboard but her favorite instrument became her voice. Singing in church and at parties with high volumes of praise, would eventually inspire her to take her gifts to a professional level. Shay decided to seek out a producer and ended up meeting Boston producer, Gordon Worthy, who provided her very first beats to record with. She then started performing in various R&B/Hip-Hop shows in Boston and surrounding areas. Doing this not only opened doors but allowed her to gain valuable insight and stage experience laying down the foundation to which she would build her https://www.tradebit.coms brought her back into the studio with good friend Chuck Dogg (formerly of Hot 97 Boston and JAMN 94.5 ) to write, produce and record more material "stepping her game up" and allowing her to flex her skills as a singer/songwriter/producer putting her personal stamp on her own unique style. Shay attributes her lifetime influences of great artists with inspiring her (past and present) to "do the damn thing". "I love Miss Holiday, Ella, Stevie, Mary, Alicia, Musiq there are so many I could name past or present." Doing this combined with having an unfailing support system of family and friends, would bring Shay full circle to share her love of music with the world."Everything happens for a reason, I truly believe that.
