Details:
Shelly Phelps is a singer, songwriter, recording artist and performer from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She and her band play an eclectic blend of Rock and Pop-tinged R&B, Funk, Jazz, and Soul. With a sultry, soulful, and passionate vocal style, the on-stage chemistry with her band members creates a powerful stage performance.

Shelly released the much anticipated CD, "Girl On the Wire," in May, 2004. The CD features the confessional, circus atmosphere title song, "Girl On the Wire." Also featured is "Eleanora," a bittersweet tribute to Billie Holiday, the seductive, Latin jazz inspired, "Smoke and Perfume," the heartbreaking, country-blues, "Lonely Ride," and "Holding the Door," a song about waiting for a lover to make a decision. "Crumble" deals with the fragility and strength of the human soul, while the funky "Providence Moves Too" is lifted from a famous quote by nineteenth century German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. "Water on the Fire" is a smoky blues number about desire that''s too hot not to burn out and "One More For the Road" is about sexual insatiability. "Let It Go" finishes the CD with a promise to leave a painful past behind and holds hope for the future.

Shelly is best known for her band of six years, The Rhythm Junkies, and as former vocalist of the latino jazz band, Salsa Neuva. When the Rhythm Junkies dissolved last year, she and Rhythm Junkie guitarist Rob Vollmar recruited Warren Roach (Bass Guitar) and Erol Coulter (Drums) who grew up playing in bands with Vollmar in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Ryan Jones, keyboardist for Oklahoma City''s "The Ills," joined the group in the studio for the recording of Girl On The Wire. The newly formed line-up proved to be a creative experience with collective influences from Etta James to Frank Zappa.

With a love for all genres of music, Shelly found her deepest love in R&B, Soul and Motown. Being the sixth of eight children, Phelps says she was also influenced by the varied tastes of her older brothers and sisters. "There was always music in the house, in every room at all times of the day and night. My parents listened mostly to Country, Bluegrass, and Southern Gospel. My older sister listened to Elton John, James Taylor and Carol King. My older brothers were listening to The Beach Boys, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. I listened to practically anything I could get my hands on."

"Girl On the Wire" was recorded at PDM Studio in Oklahoma City and was released in May, 2004.
