The Groove, from North Carolina, is an old school, southern roots rock and roll jam band steeped in tradition. “Greetings from Groovesboro” is their third release on Free The Music record label. The album contains a mixture of straight up rock tunes, swamp funk, extended jams, reggae/dub/space and low down dirty blues including eight original songs and four covers of songs by the Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, Willie Dixon, and Junior Kimbrough plus a traditional as well. Led by guitarist/singer/songwriter Rich Lerner and anchored by the rhythm section of Sam Seawell on drums and Dave Talley on bass, The Groove is very high energy and electric guitar oriented with Sammy Smith and Bob Sykes also on guitars plus Craig Pannell on keyboards and vocals. The band really does sound like a cross between many of their influences including Allman Brothers, Santana, Dylan, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Stones, Dead, Tom Waits, James Brown, Chuck Berry and all the great bluesmen. “Greetings from Groovesboro” is a late night party album/road trip album that is best heard at loud volumes with either a cold beer or a steering wheel in one hand and your favorite smoke in the other.
