GINO SITSON "Bamisphere" Featuring Ron Carter, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Essiet Essiet & Helio Alves:

Recluse, painful, dreamy, in love, nostalgic, ironic, ludic, tormented, enraged, torn, beaming, wild, Gino Sitson''s voice does not let itself stop at the first bark, but transforms itself like a chameleon as it cherishes its liberty and adopts a skin with the colours of tiers, laughters, smiles, cries, the breath of a child, of a lover, of a father, of a wise man, imitating the chipping of a bird, the percussion''s drumming, the heart beat, seeking roots, branches, sap, at the dawn of the throbbing and mind blowing land of Africa.

From an interior necessity, Gino''s voice is essential and beautiful like the earth, the wind, the fire, the water. It dances, unobtainable like dust in the wind. One loses one''s self in it. One discovers one''s self in it. One drinks from it. It resources like a mother. Its timber prints itself in us, in spite of us, changing all borders.

"Bamisphere" is Gino Sitson''s latest album. This recording is another step in the exploration of the artist as he pushes once more the limits of his creativity. Again he has successfully managed to capture the sounds and rhythm of Africa as well as showing his jazz influences. This moving piece gives a message of peace and tolerance, as well as love and freedom.

New York-based Cameroonian vocal virtuoso Gino Sitson is the only vocalist who is incorporating African polyphonic techniques into the jazz vocalese tradition.

Through his vocal wizardry and 4 octaves, he stunningly creates an endless range of sounds. Sitson''s daring musical project combines jazz, gospel, blues and traditional African rhythms and melodies in a most innovative way. He is the pioneer of a new generation of multi-culturally influenced African musicians who are integrating their own "in-between" living experiences (north/south, tradition/modernity, 20th/21st century) into their musical styles. Freely exploring the use of his voice and body, combining his vocal acrobatics with amazing body percussions and miscellaneous effects, Mr. Sitson has forged his own musical style, a unique vocal technique. Experiencing the body and the voice as an endless musical resource: that''s what he wants to share.

Gino Sitson comes from a long line of musicians, known as "Ntontas," ("players of horns"). His mother is a vocalist and choir director. Early in his life he was introduced to blues, jazz and African traditional music, first by listening, then practicing by ear, records. Before starting his professional career, he shared his time between music academies and the Sorbonne, in Paris, where he studied languages and ethnomusicology.

Little by little Mr. Sitson entered the professional musical world, first as a drummer, then as a singer. He has laid down tracks or shared the stage with Manu Dibango, Ron Carter, David Gilmore, James Hurt, Mario Canonge, Papa Wemba, Antoine Roney, Wally Badarou, Geri Allen, Ray Lema, Craig Harris, Jorge Ben, John William, Wallace Roney, Brice Wassy, Oliver N''Goma, Exile One, Nia Love, La Compagnie Créole, Steve Potts, and the "So Why?" project (with Youssou N''Dour, Papa Wemba, Wally Badarou, Jabu Khanyile & Bayete, and Lucky Dube), among others...
