Details:
The Figs hail from the great musical orchard of south Louisiana. They were born of hot July practices, conflicting musical interests, and a strong desire to wear dresses and uncomfortable shoes.

But you don''t have to take our word for it...

"The Figs'' new CD, "What Keeps Me Up At Night", is filled with antique twang, slowly plucked strings, and soothing harmonies, floating around a picturesque landscape of good and bad men, wary women, guns, love, boats, trains, buses, escape and a load of other cool things with function like a soundtrack to an imaginary film about women at the turn of the century...the music and songs never get tedious, continuously luring the listener further into the next procession of tracks like chapters in a hardbound book that you''d rather not end."

--- Dege Legg, THE INDEPENDENT | Lafayette, LA

"The all-women sextet The Figs looks like a country-time tea party of pretty girls in pretty dresses, but it rocks, Cajun-style, like a roadhouse full of moonshine and buckshot."

--- Allison Fensterstock, GAMBIT WEEKLY | New Orleans, LA

****************************************************************

"In listening to their music, one is at first struck by the captivating three- and four-part harmonies as they adeptly tackle old-time country, folk, rockabilly and bluegrass songs, along with some original lyrics and musical arrangements thrown into the mix."

--- Kelli Moore, TIMES PICAYUNE | New Orleans, LA

"The Figs, a six-piece outta Lafayette, Louisiana are a bit like what would happen if The Pipettes decided to wear flowery as opposed to polka-dotted dresses, traded in their keyboards for banjos and were just generally more Fig-like. The sassy sextet stomp their feet and bat their eyelashes as they hoot, holler and coo their own interpretations of Louisiana roots rock."

--- Alexis Swerdoff, PAPER MAGAZINE | New York, NY

THE LADIES:

CLAIRE CAFFERY
banjo, vocals

The vaudevillian Fig, Claire is known for making other Figs and Fig fans laugh with her farcical facial expressions and her motley medley of clothes. She may seem demure and dainty, but Claire certainly knows how to cut it up -- both on the banjo and in between songs. Claire''s expressive eyebrows are the seventh and eighth members of the band. The Fig to call if you need an aesthetic consultant.

SARAH GRAY
electric guitar, vocals

The precocious Fig, as a high school English teacher and an eclectic guitarist, Sarah Gray enjoys Scotty Moore, John Milton, Doc Watson, William Wordsworth, and all others who help make the world sound more beautiful. Though you shouldn''t ask her to remember the date of a show or manage finances, Sarah leads the band on stage and wrote several Figs numbers. Also, she''s sassy. The Fig to call if you want to talk about books.

CAROLINE HELM
upright bass , vocals

The Boss Fig, Caroline holds together the frenetic Figs behind the scenes. She called the Figs all together and, as a professional social worker, she keeps the band of ladies together. Fluent in French and loquacious, Caroline likes to travel and talk. Also, what a badass: she plays both rhythm guitar and the stand-up bass. The Fig to call to talk about feelings.

JILLIAN JOHNSON
tenor ukulele, vocals

The Handy Fig, Jillian Johnson likes to make things and make them beautiful -- she''s a seamstress, an artist, a designer, an all-around dexterous dynamo. In fact, Manual Dexterity is Jillian''s middle name; with her unique clawhammer stylings and what fellow Figs term her "moody uke," Jillian takes the smallest Fig instrument and gives it a huge sound. She also runs her own business, WORK Agencies -- pretty fancy for a young lady in her 20s. The Fig to call if you want something beautiful.

PAIGE PEMBERTON
drums, vocals

The party Fig, Paige Pemberton is punctual, persistent, and pragmatic -- interested in time and resourceful, as any good drummer should be. When the other Figs called her to ask about drumming with the band, she admitted that she''d only held sticks a handful of times, but with tenacity and tenderness, she set out to work. Pemberton has been known to hit on found objects like Scrabble boxes and desk bells. She also plays a mean mouth harp. The Fig to call if you want to hang out.

MELISSA STEVENSON
acoustic guitar, vocals

Mama Fig, Melissa played pregnant through the early months of the Figs. Now that she has Beckett, the rest of the group eagerly awaits seeing if those months of bumping bass on the belly instilled him with natural rhythm. When she''s not holding down the Figs'' low end with high energy, Melissa has a solo career as a children''s singer -- that''s maternal, right? -- and is a music teacher at a preschool. The Fig to call for your child''s birthday party.
