Static In Verona is the side-project of Chicago band Ash Avenue''s guitarist and chief-songwriter Rob Merz. The debut album, Be Quiet As You Leave, is filled with a collection of catchy songs mostly detailing the troubled romances of various friends and acquaintances. Piecing together elements of indie rock and aspects of electric folk, the songs are upbeat and poppy, yet haunting and elegant. Pressing acoustic against electric, they set the stage for a theme of heartbreak and redemption that runs throughout the album.
"Dead Bouquet" starts innocently and softly, slowly evolving into a steady charge and eventually a fast-paced conclusion that answers the question "What do you do when you''re done waiting?". And the album''s title track "Be Quiet As You Leave" is pure pop bliss with a strong hook you''ll be humming for days after.
