On February 11th, 1975 in Hamilton, OH a little boy that would learn to grow up quickly was born. Given the name Maurice Wells at birth this young man would go through several names over the years before deciding on SIR MOJ as his final alias.
Maurice and his family left Ohio shortly after his birth for Detroit, MI. His family stayed in Detroit until MOJ was about 6 when they headed out to California. Cali is where this young boy would soon become a man. They spent a short amount of time in East Oakland before finally making their way to the South Bay. San Jose is the city they headed to first then they finally settled in Milpitas. Milpitas would eventually be the city he called home. He finished out his schooling in Milpitas and graduated from Milpitas High. Soon after graduation he decided to go to De Anza College to obtain an AA. After that he went onto San Diego State to receive his BA in business.
MOJ wrote his first rap in 1986 after watching a Run DMC and Heavy D video that inspired him. It wasn''t until 1988 that he chose to get serious about rapping when a few of his football teammates decided to try rapping. They all came together and formed a group called N.U.T. (Niggaz United Together). Maurice became one of the front MCs for the group. He eventually chose to work solo. A lot of his influences come from such artists as Kool G Rap, Rakim, E-40, Celly Cell and Jay-Z.
Right now SIR MOJ is anticipating the release of his first album entitled SAVARILLA. While waiting on that to hit stores he is in the studio working on the mix tape. You will also be able to catch him performing on the Street Low Magazine Concert Tour.
