Details:
Cody James arrived in Nashville in the summer of 1994, bringing with him little more than raw determination, raw talent, and a guitar case full of songs. He spent the next few years honing his craft, developing relationships, and learning the music business.
By 1997, Cody James had gained the respect of his peers. That year he caught the attention of the legendary Loretta Lynn. After hearing only a few of Cody''s songs, Loretta reopened her publishing companies, which she''d chosen to close ten years earlier. She signed Cody to a three-year contract as her only writer.
Through Loretta''s friendship and mentoring, Cody developed the utmost love and respect for her. During this period, he co-wrote Loretta''s Single "I Can''t Hear the Music", a poignant ballad about Loretta''s late husband Doolittle (Doo). The song appears on Loretta''s album, "Still Country" and has received great revues from Billboard Magazine. During and since his three years at Coal Miners Music, Cody has had cuts by Mark Chestnut, Pam Tillis, and numerous other independent artists.
Cody James wrote, sang, and produced "Welcome to the Country" for a John Cherry movie production entitled "Pirates of the Plain" starring Tim Curry, famed for his role in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". "Welcome To the Country" is currently climbing the charts in Europe. Cody was featured in Robert MacNeil’s “Do You Speak American” on PBS, and Several of Cody''s songs are being performed in musical stage productions in an expanding theater chain in Ohio.
As a writer, Cody has accomplished a lot in a short period of time. His face and name are well known in the industry and his music in radio and TV. He has performed many of the songs from his CD, "Better State Of Mind" on the Grand old Opry''s WSM Radio show ''Oprystar Spotlight'' with Mathew Gillian. In a feature article on Cody in American Songwriter Magazine, Cody talks about his humble beginnings and the personal goals that drive him https://www.tradebit.com interviewer asked Cody if he dreams of the Grammy nominations and gold records that will someday line his walls. "Naw, not really." He drawls,"My dream is to be able to quietly put money into my Mom''s bank account without telling her. One day she''ll just walk into the bank and it will be full and she''ll never have to scrape around to make a living again." "That''s my dream, it''s what I go to sleep thinkin about". Loretta is deeply touched by this attitude toward success. She compared Cody''s way of putting his family first to a poignant memory she has of Patsy Cline wanting to buy her Mother a new house. he In a quote from the article, the interviewer states, "Cody is enormously grateful for everything he gets and polite to a fault…..I admit this has not been objective reporting. I like Cody James a lot. So sue me. But you know what? It''s really fun to watch someone as their dreams come true".
Cody also volunteers his time as an Adopt-A-Shop Pro for NSAI, teaching and guiding aspiring songwriters. But he is most definitely a performing artist in his own right.

Hey everybody this is Cody. This that you have just read was written a few years back. It well describes the events that were going on in my career; but if you listen closely to these songs I wrote, they tell a different story. my writing was good but if you listen closely to the lyrics of” 2 Strong”, “Near Perfect”, “You’ll Know When You Get There” and “Better State of Mind”, the reality is in some of these songs I was writing about the man I wanted to be, not the man I was. I was searching. Though all these very cool things were going on in my career then, I was addicted to drugs and alcohol so bad that at times I didn’t think I could keep going; Then in 2001 my Mom got sick and I left Nashville for Missouri to care for her. In 2003 she died in my arms in a hospital bed in her living room, her name was Norine, she was 63, and was my best friend. Her death sent me into an alcohol soaked downward spiral that turned me into an outlaw and eventually led me to incarceration. But as life goes by, people change and grow. I’m not that man any longer. I have a new life, new goals, a new path, and all new songs. Please check out my other albums on CDBaby and join me in this new chapter of my life. (other albums will be available in 3 weeks)
Be blessed,
Cody James
