PIWA BIOGRAPHY
Originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, Tapiwa Chinoda was born on April 17, 1988. He discovered his love for rap at the age of 8 years old just before moving to the Unites States. He began his new life on the southside of Nashville, Tennessee. Later down the road, he acquired the rap name “PIWA” which stands for “Puttin In Work Always”. As his skills improved over time, he began to plan his future around what he loves to do. In 2006, he attended Middle Tennessee State University. He plans to major in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing, management, economics, and finance. As his knowledge of the entertainment world grew, his independent label, Rare Breed Entertainment, grew also. With this label, he sold over 6,500 various mixtapes. He has worked with other artist such as label mate (Mike Scruggs), Kris Kang, All-star, Young Rell, Untamed, CP, Danai “the Invada”, Jumpout, Kool Daddy Fresh, as well as others. He influenced by many artist such as MobDeep, UGK, Tupac, Notorious BIG, Bob Marley, The Lox, and “the whole Motown era”. When asked, “what he wants to portray or represent with his career?” he responded:
“I speak for people that aren’t spoken for. I represent a difference in classes and hope to bridge the gaps I want to be able to give people what they want, meaning, to be versatile and to solidify my investment in my musical career”.
MIKE SCRUGGS BIOGRAPHY
Born on September 10, 1988 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Michael Scruggs set out to began his journey we call life. 15 years later, he began to explore his new found talent as a rapper/lyricist. At this time, he acquired the rap name of “Mike Scruggs”. He learned most of his skills from his brothers: Ice Burg Slim, Young Money, Lil Jones, and Trap Star. They came together to form the group, King of the Streets (AKA Cut Throat). Mike Scruggs later branched out to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to attend Middle Tennessee State University in 2006 to study Recording Industry, Production, and Technology. There he signed with Rare Breed Entertainment to continue his rap career. Besides labelmate PIWA, he has also worked with Dez G, Hades, Rodie, Flo ans Young Ru. Some artist he has been influenced by were Tupac, Pastor Troy, T.I., and Hotboy. Mike Scruggs is motivated by his mother who has always pushed him to pusue his education and do what he has grown to love. When asked, what hw wants to portray or represent with his career he responded:
“I’m someone expressing the trails and tribulations of life. Real relates to real. If you’ve struggled, then you can relate to my point of view”…”I don’t stunt in or out of the booth if I don’t have it”.
Mike Scruggs’ future goals are to “be known as one of the greats to get behind the mic from Chatt”. Also to eliminate the middle man by making use of his talents as a rapper as well as a producer.
