Flannery O''connor once said ''everything that rises must converge'' this axiom certainly holds true for the members of smokewagon and their sound. Crawling from the dry husks of dissolute bands, failed relationships and broken dreams, slowly spiraling up, or some may say down, to the newly re-polished big apple, Pat, Jesse and Kevin finally did converge, and where they intersected found a sound that is uniquely american; powerful when need-be and yet delicate and introspective. Eschewing the cardboard re-hashing of 70''s and early 80''s glitz-pop and new-wave, and the even less appealing hip-hop thug-metal that popped up in the wake of "grunge," Smokewagon stuck to their guns and crafted music that looks to the innovators of rock, from Robert Johnson to Robert Fripp and back again, not to steal their hooks, but maybe their ideology, After all what''s the point of expressing yourself when you''re just aping someone else while you do it?. No matter how many kids thrash around on stage feigning Iggy Pop, there is still only one Iggy, Johnny Cash is slowly becoming God and Elvis is still dead.. With this philosophy in mind Smokewagon embraced all that is true, honest and bad-ass and wrote songs about what they love, namely: diabolical women, booze, friends, cowboys, bad-ass mother-fuckers and sometimes even themselves. Theirs is a soundscape of trouble brewing and trouble passing and all of the victims, villians and victors that rise and fall in its wake.

needless to say that if you LISTEN to the music the years of experience and passion for making music are there, You can almost hear the years of Ramen noodles and angry girlfriends, But behind that you can hear something else; real rock music from lovers of real rock music. It''s the same song that has been around forever and yet it''s like you are hearing it for the first time. It will never go away, so you better learn to love it.
