If you made a soundtrack to the act of baking a cake on an electric chair, Walrus would be it. I''m serious. In terms of real-life bands, think 1997, The Anniversary, Mates of State, and Red Hot Valentines. The only catch is that while imagining all of these bands collaborating to form Walrus, you MUST imagine them doing this in a way that is very similar to how the Power Rangers form the Megazord.

"20000 Leagues is a solid debut effort from a group of fresh-faced youngsters...While the sound of Walrus is fairly derivative of their influences, as far as I am concerned their influences are the right ones so in turn I enjoy their work. I’m sure they will be shifting and changing with releases to come and they have plenty of time to grow. But for now, if you are a sucker for synth-filled tunes or guy-girl harmonies, Walrus do ‘em right."

"With the lineup and core staying unchanged for years, they have developed an outstanding chemistry that belies their age...It(20,000 Leagues), is one of the finer debut records I have heard from such a young band. Although it doesn’t drift too far from their initial influences, you can hear the obvious talent from a band that should be relevant for years to come."

"Walrus’s unique brand of sweet power pop is winning over the kids – and other generations. It is the kind of music that purges that universal sense of world-weary angst. The harmonies contain a last-days-of-summer-vacation longing, but when the cymbals crash and the guitar riffs, and you’ve forgotten why you were feeling down. Watching a Walrus show brings out a feeling akin to racing your bike down the hill and screaming at the top of your lungs: a rush of nostalgia, mixed with a breathtaking release – the way power pop should be."
