Johnny Tex & The Texicans have put together their debut CD featuring the internet hit spoof on illegal immigration, “So Long, Texas - Hello, Mexico!” and ten additional original and cover traditional country songs. “ So Long, Texas - Hello, Mexico!” was featured on Lou Dobbs CNN website for 8 months and was credited by Billboard Magazine & Texas Music Magazine as the first song to incorporate illegal immigration into country music.
Johnny Tex & The Texicans consists of Johnny (Tex) Bradshaw, Rita W. Jones, & Michael Jones. Seven of the eleven songs on the album were penned by award winning writer, Rita Jones. The song, “Trans-Texas Corridor Blues” has been featured in two critically acclaimed documentary films by award winning film maker William Molina. Four songs by Rita Jones were performed on Ed McMahon’s “Star Search” resulting in Mary Jo Pierce winning “Teen Vocalist Of The Year“. Rita holds the record for the most original songs ever performed on “Star Search” by a single writer. 2007 & 2008 winner of the “Los Angeles Jazz Artist of The Year Award“, Sherry Petta, recorded one of Rita’s songs, “Blue Ain’t Just A Color” on her debut album. “This Is Why“. Larry Youngblood recorded five of Rita’s songs on his debut album, “Love Is What You Make It” and one of her songs, “Tears On The Bayou” from that album has received extensive airplay in the overseas market.
