Details:
“The Bastards” formed in 1990, in a haze of alcoholic nonchalance and a devil-may-care enthusiasm that almost made up for a craven fear of performing in front of an audience. A bottle of Jack Daniels is an excellent cure for stage nerves.

Originally a 4-piece, the band soon expanded to five members with the addition of a second guitar.

First gig we played was with three songs and no band name. Rhodie the bar manager had to chalk something on the sign outside the pub and knew a little about us, so “The Bastards” it was. Actually, it started off as “Pike and the Bastards”, but Pike picked up his drumsticks and cleared off to Bangkok.

Musical influences cover everything on the not-so-subtle side of rock and pop from the ‘60s onwards. The Who, Sex Pistols, Ruts, Hendrix, Neil Young, Nirvana, AC/DC, plus a host of others which faltering brain cells have difficulty recalling at the moment – we’ve played ‘em all, and, presumably, been influenced by them when we started writing our own stuff.

“The Bastards” earned their reputation as a hard rocking live act, playing the Hong Kong circuit and venturing to other venues in SE Asia.

The first album, “Welcome to the Royal”, was released in 1996. It was a distillation of all the self-penned stuff from the live set up to that point.

The second album ‘Scheming in the Backroom’ was released in 2008. It was recorded in the back of a shop over a weekend and then worked up in Yellow Frog Media under the watchful eye of producer/engineer Rob Porter.

The current lineup comprises Dave Green (bass/vocals), Tony Greenwood (drums), Mark Harrison (guitar), Dan James (vocals), and Jim Shorthose (guitar).

The lineup for Welcome to the Royal comprised Dave Green (bass/vocals), Brendan Delfino (drums), Mark Harrison (guitar), Dan James (vocals), and Dave Campbell (guitar).
