What''s Behind the Music?

An uplifting, crystal-clear message. The same in-your-face guitar and vocal drive you remember growing up to. Can these two ideals actually work together in harmony?

Meet Solomon''s Request. Three guys who got together and decided that Hard Rock lyrics could be packed to the rim with passion and pain, but may be better received if genuineness and authenticity are in the drivers seat. Is it possible to combine the aggressive punch of power chords and cymbal crashes with positive, thought provoking words that linger long after the music fades?

That''s exactly what Unafraid, the band''s debut studio release after a year-and-a-half of grueling ups and downs, is all about doing. "We definitely had opposing forces during the making of this one," adds front-man Waslar, "we had equipment failure, financial limitations, health issues, conflicting schedules, you name it. But we always said a prayer before each session, and I really believe that was what gave us the perseverance to continue."

Prayer is exactly what Solomon''s Request will need as they continue on their journey from stage to stage, and eventually, state to state. After a summer of live shows, progressing CD sales, news coverage, a full hour broadcast and re-broadcast interview on the fast growing internet radio show Artist First Network, and some good mentoring (including the likes of Ron Vanderlip of national recording artist Heaven''s Wish), Solomon''s Request is ready for the next level.

After committing some well spent time to writing new material and upgrading the live show, SR has returned with a solid direction: Harder edge and songs that everyone can relate to. This is most evident in the quickly growing popularity of the future release He Never Goes Away. "That song," Waslar notes, "is part of the reason we are so excited about getting back into the studio. We''ve all agreed that this album is going to be a scorcher from beginning to end, with no coming up for air!" Recording is likely to begin this winter.

Bass-man Steve Rhein and drummer Joe Ciaramitaro provide the ever-precise rhythm section for the group. "Music has been in my family for generations," proclaims Rhein. "I started playing bass due to the ''feel'' it lends to the balance - and sometimes unbalance - of a song." Joey compliments this style with his past success in various percussion competitions around the state.

Like most bands, Solomon''s Request has priorities, but worldly wealth is not one of them. "I remember just a short time ago when winning the ''Battle of the Bands'' was so paramount," recalls Waslar, "but we don''t need any of that. The goals and the money, they are part of life, but what keeps us running the race is the prize at the end, and knowing that we''ve reached some lives through the power of music."

This band has been through tragedy and triumph, and they have written songs about it. They write about the faith that gets them through it. They write about what the faith is getting them through.

Perhaps they are reaching you along the way.
