Guy McNulty grew up in Bridgeview, IL., a small suburb just outside of Chicago. His upbringing allowed him to be very creative and let his mind be free. At a young age, he knew that music and art would always be a part of his life.
At age 8, he briefly took up guitar, but didn''t stick to it. Too much too early.
Finally at age 10, he had decided to dedicate himself to the instrument, and began taking guitar lessons. After a year and a half, he felt that he understood the fundamentals of guitar, and could teach himself...his way at his own pace. He began learning cover songs and imagining the rock star life.
In seventh grade, he met John Giebudowski, a fellow guitar player with similar musical interests, and his younger brother Justin, who they beat-up a lot. Together they would grow together as musicians, music-lovers, and most of all as people. Little did they know then what life would bring them.
In 1996, Guy offered to stand-in as a bass player in a newly-formed hardcore/punk band named Insane Youth. There he would meet Jon Goldyn, Dave Wiegers and Tim Cronin, some of the most passionate people in regards to music.
After about a year, his friend John was asked to join the band. Guy''s temporary stand-in lasted more than six years. Insane Youth, which became KilSwitch, added Keith Sicles, another absolutely amazing drummer with Timmy''s departure. They released several CD''s, some studio-recorded, some self-recorded, and had Eric Meers-berg, a film-school graduate and good friend, shoot their first and only video.
As bandmates, the time had come to move on. Guy new that he wanted to make an album on his own before he had taken the stand-in position. He left the band in 2001, and shortly after, KilSwitch was gone, with Jon Goldyn and John Giebudowski forming Bite the Hand, and Dave Wiegers and Keith Sicles forming Maddface.
It was now time. Guy had waited most of his life to chase this dream. He began building his home studio. He knew what he wanted and how he wanted it to sound. He had learned a lot, but still had a lot to learn. He had a lot to say about his views on life, and wanted to express them. He had never considered himself a singer, but knew he needed to start to convey his message. The storm was coming...
In March of 2004, he began work on "The Storm of February 65th", a concept album that would tell the story of Scorpio Seven, a messiah of nature, who has come to try to warn the planet of their neglect and oversight. It was finally completed in July of 2005, and it''s full release is in process as new outlets become available.
"The Storm of February 65th" has twelve tracks that take you on a journey through time, thought and feeling and may open you to some new ways of thinking. The album features a DVD, which includes some behind the scenes footage and a studio tour. It also includes the music video for "Dream", shot and directed by Eric Meers-berg which placed in the semi-finals at the Moondance Film Festival in Colorado.
In life we meet new people, see new sights, and learn new things, never knowing how they will affect us in the future. Guy McNulty knows he is very lucky to have met the people he did, and you will be hearing from all of us very, very soon...
