Since his youth, guitarist Roger Filgate has played in numerous bands from New York to Los Angeles. During the 90’s he joined the legendary British rock group, Wishbone Ash. Having recorded several critically acclaimed albums as both guitarist and songwriter, he toured the world extensively. This led to sharing the stage with such artists as: Santana, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Guns & Roses, Yes, Blue Oyster Cult, and many more.
With several CD’s from original bands over the years to his credit including: Cinema and Blast Room, Roger has also recorded and made guest appearances with various legendary artists. Most recently, a duo of guitar solos recorded for Chubby Checker on his newest single “Knock Down The Walls”. Firstly, a Top-40 Pop/Rock version, which reached #1 on Billboard’s Singles chart in 2008, as well as an Urban mix of the same song featuring a nylon string Spanish-style solo.
Regarded as a virtuoso, he’s also considered by many to be one of the last real “old-school” players. His new CD “Worlds Within” is a first for Roger, an entirely all-instrumental solo album, which is set for release in early 2009. Already receiving accolades, it encompasses the versatility, tones, technique, and passionate playing style for which he is well known. Perpetually evolving, his guitar playing and song writing talents are among the world’s best, as is his growing reputation as a top-rate recording engineer and producer.
Several tracks are spawned from the classic rock sounds of the late 60’s, 70’s, and early 80’s, while others weave through many different musical styles. It truly takes one on a sonic journey into blues, rock, jazz, country, etc. What’s more is the brilliant performances offered up here from drummer Ed Lange, and bassist Peter Bennett. Having kept tabs on Roger’s music since the mid 80’s, I can honestly say that he has put his best foot forward here. “Worlds Within” showcases a unique variety of world-class guitar playing, mature and well-structured melodic songs, the likes of which are not to be found elsewhere.
