A true Renaissance Man in every sense. Over the years Riley, a man in his 50s, is or was, a "Guinness World Record" holder for memorizing pi, a special guest on the "Today Show", a "Trivial Pursuit" question, a professional juggler, character actor, a science teacher, an Olympic Torchbearer, the inventor of ''drubbling''*, and a "Boston Marathon" runner/drubbler.
Last but not least a guitarist, singer and songwriter.
A latecomer in music, he never sang in front of people until once in his thirties, when he was told he had a good voice and should not hide it.
It is quite hard to attach a style to his music other than balladeer. Just when you listen to the CD and label him folk along comes the fourth track that has hot electric guitar licks, definitely not folk. Two tracks, "Arlington" and "Spirit of the Crim" sound like anthems. One thing for sure if you like song lyrics that come right at you and make sense without a lot ''what does it all mean?'' kind of thinking, then this CD is especially for you.
The first track is about "Arlington National Cemetery." From the Arlington National Cemetery website: Michael Robert Patterson, webmaster says: "........from the heartland of Michigan, a small package arrived from Riley McLincha. Not really knowing what to expect, I played the cassette tape contained in that package. What I heard coming from the speakers was a song which literally brought tears to my eyes. Knowing that my webpage would never be complete without it, I wrote to Riley again requesting his permission to post the lyrics here."
*Drubbling: dribbling 3 basketballs while running. (he has drubbled several marathons 26.2 miles)
