Details:
Six rockers make up the new band, Navasota-Rio, an offspring of Navasota – the 70’s rock band from Houston, Texas. Navasota had a “reputation for supercharged shows and dynamic musical ability” as the original ABC/Dunhill Records press release stated. And now Navasota-Rio not only follows in those footsteps, but takes the “supercharge” up a notch or two. The band''s new CD was produced by Gary Katz (Steely Dan, Joe Cocker, 10CC and many more).

Lead singer is Lance Cardin. With vocal delivery that puts his audience into the heart of the song, Lance can charm, chastise, and convince with deft delivery onstage. He is masterful when it comes to “live” performance, where the band lives and breathes! At the same time, he is a songwriter of great depth as demonstrated by his songs, “Restless,” “Long Cold Night” and “Texas Flood of Tears.”

Guitarist Maxwell “Max” Jones brings his deep-Southern rock to the band. Playing professionally since age seventeen, Max has played in many bands in the Midwest, Dallas-Fort Worth area, Southeast Texas and most recently in Houston. Max cites Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Billy Gibbons and Texas bluesman, Lightnin’ Hopkins as his main influences, which explains his notable slide playing, and why his most prized possession is a glass Coricidin bottle slide that once belonged to Duane himself, and was given to Max by Rusty Burns of Point Blank.

Guitarist Robert Hampton has his own super-charged reputation in Houston music circles. Known for his extraordinary performance abilities on guitar, he is also known as the “Guitar Doctor” having built a very successful business customizing and repairing guitars. Everyone in the band is thankful to the rock gods for planting Hampton squarely in our midst.

Bassist for Navasota-Rio is Chadwick “Chad” Davis. Chad is new to the band, but certainly not new to rock n’ roll, having played bass, performed background vocals and written original songs with the very popular Houston-based band, Mercury Down. Possessing a style all his own to include background vocals, Chad brings his special seasoning to the tunes, while adding great stage presentation.

Drummer for Navasota-Rio is Keith York. Keith has been active primarily in the East Central and great Gulf Coast regions of Texas for over two decades. Always in demand for gigs and sessions, he has played with many bands in a variety of styles, but primarily classic and contemporary rock, blues, jazz and country. A well known and respected from Houston, Texas, Keith won “Best Drummer” awards in the Public News “Readers’ Poll” for three years straight. His influences are many and varied: from Billy Cobhan to Dave Weckl, to Ginger Baker and Tommy Aldrich to name but a few.

Paul Minter was bassist for the original band, Navasota. Fortunate to come back from the battle fields of Vietnam in 1967, Paul’s rock ‘n roll career finally paid off for him when he formed Navasoto. With Navasota-Rio, Paul brings to the stage his bass guitar with the Roland synthesizer, whereby he adds melodic B-3 fills and other instrumentation.
