The Yogipoets are mostly Steve Armstrong and Jeremy Provan along with a few friends and guests including Don Cameron formally of The Mashall Tucker Band and Thom Furbee former engineer for Lesley West and Mountain.
Each of them has been making music since childhood and also practising vegetarianism and yoga over the years. Steve (Sada Ruci) likes to inject his off beat humor into the songs, Jeremy tends to wax poetic and drift into philosophical musings mixed up into contemporary themes.
The music ranges from Steve''s eastern influenced New Ageish compositions to Jeremy''s roots in blues and rock. Altogether it ends up as a kind of colorful post Dead adventure with Beatlesque undertones.
Their first Cd "Past Present Future" hit a strong nerve with listeners with songs like "Hidden Cameras", "Bar Code Blues" "The Funeral Of Mahatma Ghandhi" and the ten minuite poem critique of modern consumerism "The Song Of The Consumer".
Mystic Valley eases up on the heavy hitting quasi political themes of Past Present Future and wades into 21st century yogic hippiedom; laid back awareness not taking itself too seriously. "Dream Of An Angel" has been something of a juke box hit in the Ohio Valley of West Virginia, a song which rocks solidly and looks for light somewhere in the darkness. "Play It Backwards" is an off the cuff spoof of artistic hopes and paranoia. The cd ends with "Rajasthani Raga" a musical mandala guaranteed to temporarily put even the most wandering of minds into a virtual trance.
The Yogi Poets are pretty laid back and deliver their casual thought provoking offerings with a hard to define range of musical styles. Kick back, chill out and enjoy the trip.
