A music instructor once told him, "the quickest way to break up a band is to move in together". Mike Stocksdale found that out the hard way in July of 2003. He was the lead guitarist and co-songwriter for the successful indie rock/pop band from Indiana University, Three Minute Mile. They''d opened for various acts such as the Foo Fighters, Michelle Branch, OKGO, and headlined the side stage at 2001''s Farm Aid, which featured Dave Matthews and Neil Young. After living together in an apartment in Chicago for 11 months, Three Minute Mile decided to call it quits. With their lease up in September, Mike had a month to figure out how to deal with life after music. Searching for September was written during that month as well as the following one, in which he traveled from Chicago to New York to Los Angeles via a beaten up ''95 Saturn, visiting friends and family along the way, soaking up inspiration from anything and everyone he saw. In the end though, the album became more about him than anyone else. It''s musical diversity might be attributed to the late-night bar bands and early morning street performers who have helped to shape and miss-shape that truly indefinable "American" music scene, but Searching for September retains togetherness and clarity from one simple recurring theme: one man, one life.
Mike Stocksdale grew up in Playa Del Rey and Palos Verdes, CA. He wrote, produced, and played every instrument on his solo debut: Searching for September.
