ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Power Pop

Details:
Stride are a rock / pop band steeped in the melodic tradition of British Invasion rock, Garage, Alternative and West Coast 60''s pyschedelia while incorporating strong song writing and modern production techniques.

All though Stride tip a hat in the direction of 3 minute 60''s pop they are no throwback, influences as wide as The Pixies, The Police, Modern Alt-Country, Radiohead, and great songwriters such as Richard Thompson are stirred into the mix.

Ultimately Stride sound like Stride.

The Stride story is one of coincidence.

Stride was ultimately the result of the accidental meeting of two guys from the same neigbourhood in Ireland. Singer/songwriter/guitarist, John McDermott and drummer Gareth Finucane grew up on the same street in Limerick, Ireland, living a stones throw from each other.

After secondary school McDermott left to study business at the University of Galway while Finucane stayed in Limerick to study at the Limerick College of Art and Design.

Soon after college they both departed separately for the U.S, Finucane to Chicago and McDermott to San Francisco.

By a quirk of fate they met several years later in a San Francisco bar, and as they rekindled their relationship, a strong friendship formed.

They discovered a common passion for music, and decided to form a band.

At this stage McDermott, a life long musician, had played and recorded solo and with several bands, while Finucane had learned how to drum by playing along to his favorite albums on his brothers kit.

The band went through several incarnations, (and as many Bass players), before settling on the name Stride with Gardner May on Bass.

In late 2000 they began recording what was planned as a demo.

As the project progressed the scope of the recording expanded, and Stride decided to release an album.

The self- produced album. One Last Bonfire? was recorded in McDermott''s San Francisco studio, Since the album was complete May left the band. Due to another chance meeting, David Irwin another Irish ex-pat has joined on Bass.
